At long last Ive finally put an animal on the deck!
Went hunting about 2 hours south of home with another LEO friend onto a private block gobush.co.nz a small family outfit that caters from small groups and doesn't cost the earth. They've got 3000 hectares of cutover native bush with tracks and clearings throughout. Check out the website.
Anyhoo.
This outfit is the real deal, cheap as chips and Danny our guide is a real nice guy. You get a little open back Suzuki Vitara as your transport and 3000 hectares in which to play, its cut over native with lots of tracks and open areas plus good open bush under the canopy

The big shot.

Id seen about 6 animals on the previous day but was a wee too slow on the trigger, trying to get the best shot….thats my excuse.
So Sat morning I jumped in the back of our transport and was being driven off into a new spot to see if I could bag anything, my mate Murray already had a nice spiker but I'd not been successful.
Anyhoo we're driving along the main track heading out back when I saw a hind and yearling up on a rise about 150 meters away, the hind just stood there, I got the guide to stop and while sitting cramped in the rear of this open Suzuki Ute sighted her up and boompha.
She moved off and I thought oh no stuffed that up, she hadn't reacted and I hadn't heard a strike and thought ahhh - Fire truck!
Anyway I knew the spiker was hanging around so I went and stalked in, as I dropped down onto the road and went below everyone else's line of sight the spiker stood up where they could see but not me, I got a sharp whistle and finger pointing and snuck up but by that time the deer had taken off, so up I went and started looking for any blood or whatever - just in case.
Danny our guide was about 20 meters from me and goes "hey boy - you'd better come here" and sure enough down about 5 meters from where id shot at her she was laying dead as. STOKED! Looked at her wound and it was bang on where I was aiming so I was even more stoked.

Its been a long time coming but Im bloody glad the drought has broken.

I'll get Vince to put some photos up as I'm stuffed if I know how to on this EF (electronic Feind) , (Vince; can you post those 4 that I sent you.)Folks; If the photos are up, thats Tongariro, Ngarahoe and Ruapehu in the back ground, taken from the high point on the block, the southern edge of the block is the Whanganui River, its all about 2 hours from home

Great Pictures, Radar. Thanks for taking them and sharing. Elvis thank your wife for helping to post. Vince, I like the order you put them in. Beautiful country!
