My Wife, and twins Zach and Hope, and I met my Dad in Law at his Senior Center for lunch today.

The Senior Center was having a Craft Sale, along with good home cooked food.
Judy's Dad and I are best of friends, but he is a retired Carpenter, and hard core Union. Vote the donkey's ass no matter what.

We were all sitting around a table eating, and people started coming to our table to give me friendly crap about McCain and the Republicans.
The folks there are all "you know what" Very Happy

I countered by giving an example of "spreading the wealth"

I said--"Here we all are standing around this table, eating and talking, enjoying ourselves, while the folks at the craft tables are working all day to make some money.
Obama would have the folks that are working give us lazy folks over here a cut of their earned money at the end of the day".
"Come next week, the folks that have worked and then split their hard earned money with us, will be over hear, sitting on their dead asses just like us to get the free cash from the workers."
"Before long, nobody will be working, and therefore there will be no money to buy the great food here."
I then told them that this is Obama's great "Spreading the Wealth" idea.

You could have heard a pin drop.
For once, no wise comments from the "Spread the Wealth" crowd.

Boy, what a perfect chance and place to make a great example of Obama's America.

This could (and probably is) the wrong audience, but I just can't help myself...

The problem with your scenario is that the republican ideology undermines the skill and productivity of these lower 'classes' by denying high standard education, healthcare and so forth. More productive labor earns more money, which flows up the 'food chain' so to speak, with everybody earning more. Whilst marxist economics does in the short term increase profitability for the wealthy minority, in the long term it only results in all parties being out-competed by other nations. Thus the only winners are the wealthy minority for a short period of time. The current economic situation should clearly illustrate that the long term results of greed and a vast imbalance in power and education (the very things the Republican Party stands for) are only destructive (unfortunately not confined only to the US where the problem occured, but felt by the entire world).

Looking at it in a purely mechanical way, it is the balance between investment and cash profit. No investment means the business (or country) will eventually be unable to compete due to inadequate resources and inefficient production and jobs and wealth go offshore.

No, education just doesn't get twisted like the Left-wingers want to be "fair" to everyone. Which means they rig the education process to pump out more idiots with degrees because they have lowered the requirements so far, that the paper the degree is printed on isn't even worth the cost of printing it anymore.

Many terms are used for this, but in the end its the same result. You get kids with 4 year university degrees that can't hold a job nor do simple tasks (that are supposed to be taught in high school) without outside help.

Claymore...I'm not sure where you are going with all that, but as you critisize our system here in America, remember. We still have all our guns, so far...I'm for making sure the rich are staying rich. If they start loosing money they tend to lay off the poorer of us. You do not make the poor better off giving the poor wealth unless they earn it by working.

Everyone in this country has the same chance at education as anybody else. No matter how bad the school they are attending is. Most of my education is self taught because the teachers couldn't give me the information I wanted and I knew I wasn't going to college...If people want to succeed in this country all they have to do is get off their ass and go for it. Most here would rather whine and snivel about how bad they have it. And expect the government to hand out other peoples money to them. At this point I'm a bit fed up to about here with their "bleating"...

By the way...Welcome to this fine site. In case no one has invited you. Grab a beer (preferably Vince's) and pull up a stump...

Whoa...Dude!!! I respect your right to have an opinion and will defend that right for all but I do not and cannot sit by and not challenge this skewed thinking. The imbalance of the haves and have not’s has been defined by the great society plans of the Democrats as a very intentional unintended consequence of doing something in the name of benevolence with the hidden agenda of having a large group become beholding to you. The lack of achievement in the lower economic groups is not due to a lack of opportunity or oppression by "the man". It is due to complacency brought on by subsidizing a less productive life style. Even the poor Americans living below what we now define as the poverty line feel entitled to cell phones, microwave ovens and cable TV. If you use the Maslow hierarchy, these people are several steps up on the pyramid from the majority of America in the depression era. I submit that it is too easy to be poor and uneducated and the cost is not personal but societal as we try to carry along those who will not carry themselves. If we cut the net a bit and made being poor less desirable the industry would not have to be filled in by illegal immigrants and shipped offshore.
I never got a job from a poor, stupid man. If you truly believe that you should not be rewarded for you efforts and those who have more ability and expend more effort should not have more than those with lesser skills and a poor work ethic, then we will never reach any common ground.
It is not the fault of the achievers that the lower classes are lagging behind. I place that blame on the notion that they are entitled to a free ride just by being born. You claim that the lower classes are denied quality benefits from health care and education. I say I pay full boat for my kids to go to private college while the lower class get full rides for being a minority "high potential" student. I pay high health insurance premiums so they can get free care that has to be written off by hospitals that are forced to then charge $100 an aspirin to try to cover fo those who do not pay.

Just like the Holiday Inn TV commercials from a few years ago where the "Failure to Launch" child would have unreasonable expectations from his family, I say to the lower classes... What do you think this is a Holiday Inn?

Rather than wallow in self pity, take advantage of the opportunities that exist. You may have to move away from a bad area with no economic opportunity, you may have to eat macaroni and tuna for a few years like I did in college and early working life but hard work is rewarded in our nation. Cream still rises.
You see no investment in our resources, the lower classes, I see wasted opportunity and third generation entitlement attitude. Jobs are leaving offshore not only because our poor are "too good" to do the work for the wage that someone in India will do it for but because of Democrat taxation of business making a hostile environment to grow a business in that makes it profitable to move offshore. This greed to take someone’s industry and confiscate it to create a social program that will be inefficiently and in effectively run by the government is causing the jobs to leave. You see greed in the wealthy. I see a means of wealth creation for the lower classes you claim we ignore. It ultimately up to the individual to be responsible for himself and his family. Big brother is not there to wipe your nose. In the preamble to the constitution it is very clear as to the primary role of a government.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Our Union is designed to provide peace ,justice,liberty and defense for our people and PROMOTE the general welfare. The use of promote is not a random choice of words. It was never intended that we guarantee that every citizen will be given the same result, only the same opportunity to succeed.

The idea of trickle up economics is ridiculous because in order for the government to give money to the lower classes to spend, they have to take it from somewhere else. So it trickles down from the Government and the achievers they took it from.

Taxes are my money. When politicians forget that and act like they are owed more and more is when I work to get someone else elected to that position.

Well said DawgDad. In my line of work, I see exactly that every day. The professional welfare recipients working the system. Acting like you owe them something. And then to top it all off, they try to steal whatever they can. If they would simply put as much effort into a real job they would be much better off. Granted, some jobs just don't pay enough and they need a little help but atleast thier working instead of sitting on thier 300lb, or more, @$$ and not even trying to make an effort.

Welfare should only be available to people who are WORKING but not making a decent amount to sustain themselves in their FULL TIME (40 hour a week) job. Or doing FULL TIME studies in a post secondary institution to better themselves.

At least in my view.

I gotta say that I am unaware of anyone in the US being denied a chance at higher education. Even illegal immigrants are allowed it some places. Now you actually have to WORK to get it though. I am aware, and afraid, that basic education has been severely dumbed down to accomodate the slackers. Seems that a free educations isn't neccessarily a good one.
