I just changed out my Remington for the Tika T3 (blued with the walnut stock in Win 270). I was very impressed with the incredible accuracy and the overall balance. Has anyone else bought one of these and what has your experience with the T3 been.

rrogacki: The Tikka is a great choice that is gaining popularity in the market. The main problem at our gunshop is getting an adequate number of them. Hunters(T3 and T3 Lite), varmint callers (T3 HB) and silhouette (T3 Lite) shooters alike buy them as fast as we can stock them.

Pros: cost, accuracy and light weight.

Cons: cost of magazines and the small ejection/loading port.

Happy hunting to you.

I've got the model which came before it - a Tikka Master. Or M595 I think you yanks will know it as. It is in 6.5x55 swedish and it is a beauty.

IMHO, the build quality is a league up from remington. Brilliantly made, works well, drops deer - straight out of the box! No need to change the trigger or get the chamber re-worked. Straight out of the box - lovely. Topped it off with a Meopta Artemis 2100 zoom scope which makes everything crystal clear.

Have you got a supressor for it? Mine was screw cut and I use a T8 and it gets rid of all recoil - none to start with really and keeps it nice an quiet. Very popular in England.

Good choice - happy hunting.

DaveyBoy,

I am considering having the barrel ported, but I've heard different opinions, some good and some not. Someone told me that the rifle will be more accurate while others have told me that the shot is louder. I don't know what to believe anymore.

Thanks....Bob

rrograki

DON'T DO IT!!!! porting IMO is not a good idea...if you need recoil reduction have a muzzle-brake screwed on it or get a better recoil pad. if you ask me, when you port a rifle you have just effectively reduced your barrel length by 1-2" that could be used for making velocity and also the ports start to deteriorate after time and can affect accuracy.

this is my .02 worth.

Hi rrogacki

Ported? Hhhmmm... .270 Winchester can be a bit of a savage round with a kick but I don't think that getting it ported will benefit you. Similar to putting flash eliminators on barrels - hardly worth it. I think that these rifles are pretty close on perfection as they are and I don't like screwing around with them. I haven't even adjusted the trigger on mine - no point!

The best thing that I have found for recoil is a silencer. I've got a Reflex T8 on mine - you can see them here . Either that or load a softer cartridge. A pad may help - depends on how you are built, I suppose.

Without seeing you with the rifle and the ammo that you are using, it's hard to say. What are you going to shoot with it? Targets or freezer fillers?

DaveyBoy,
Thank you for the suggestion and I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it is illegal to own a silencer in the States, at least in my state. But hey, I've been wrong before and probably will be again. I'm shooting for freezer fillers and usually reload for the maximum velocity. I love the Tika. It's accurate, smooth and light, but I guess I'm used to the Remington which seemed heavier. I think that my only workable solution is to go with the muzzle brake and hope I get some of the benefits of the Reflex T8.

Thanks bradking1, I didn't realize the down side to porting a rifle. I would hate to ruin a good firearm.

Silencers are illegal for hunting in the states I know, which is an interesting contrast to the more restrictive rules/regs of other lands which permit and/or require them.

Most shooters find the recoil of the 270Win is easily mastered. I agree with bradking1 in recommending a better recoil pad if needed. The Limb Saver is one of the better choices in my experience.

Muzzle brakes and porting increase noise considerably; they are prone to clogging with debris and represent a cost that could be used for other and more pragmatic things. In field situations, one seldom remembers the recoil of a rifle when the crosshairs are on big game.
