Howdy. Has anybody ever tried this stuff. It's a liquid case cleaner, you emerse your brass in this solution and they claim in less than five minutes you have clean perrty brass it's supose to clean the primer pockets as well.

This was discussed on another site that I frequent...It seems faster which means that you haven't got time to do the other chores necessary for reloading. Besides you must rinse the cases very good and place them in the oven for a while at low heat. This will start several problems not to mention the wife's argument...It was also determined that shinny interiors and shinny primer pockets will not be seen by anyone but you after you load them and will not improve your inability or ability to shoot any better. Tumbling gives you time to set up and prepare for the reloading experience. And keep you out of trouble with your wife....My answer? NO...And I doubt that I will...Be aware that a lot of chemicals that can clean brass may weaken it too...

I agree with you Bushy. Someone gave me a bottle of G96 Brass Case Cleaner a few years ago and the bottle is still full. I've never tried it. It supposedly works in 1 - 2 minutes and then you are to rinse off with water. Like Bushy said, then you need to use the oven. "Not in my house you wouldn't" Further more if you think about all the messing around it's probably faster with the tumbler. I like my Lyman Turbo tumbler, works great............ without water.............. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Lyman Turbo 1200?? Sorry Joe...I'll get back on subject in a moment....

Liquid cleaners...Have you ever wondered what they may be made of that can eat powder residue and stains from burnt powder? I have a recipe for fast case cleaning and it still won't clean the inside or the primer pockets, but it will remove the tarnish and/or corrosion. I would much prefer my clean shinny cases that I get so many compliments from others at the range and hunt camp then to use some of these so-called safe cleaning products that don't add any advantage. All I use is Olsen's Tumbler Media...It's cheap and it is fine enough to flow through the flash hole. It's listed ingrediance is "Corncob with Chromium Oxide". My cases are shinner then some of those that use polish and other shine making aditives. You have to use sun glasses to load a magazine or cylinder the glint is so bad...No. The liquid and other fancy products on the market are just "Gotcha" products...You don't need them. Practice more. Works for me... Very Happy

Bushmaster,

I wouldnt put that on my lips or the cosmetics that has up to 10% of it in it Laughing

I myself would avoid it. What happens if you let it soak and forget it over night ?? Confused

It is just water and Vinegar (acetic acid is vinegar). The combination is actually a less potent but different acid. If you were to soak your brass in it for more than 24 hours it would begin to attack the Zinc and leave the weaker copper behind - the same thing happens in minutes with hydrochloric acid (the stuff they clean concrete with (also called Muriatic Acid) but then it is strong enough to digest food (your stomach generates hydrochloric Acid to aid in digestion).
I much prefer the tumbler (rock tumbler) that I have. Throw in the cob or walnut shells, put in the brass and let it go. By the time I'm ready for it the brass is ready for me.

HYROXYACETIC ACID is actually GLYCOLIC ACID. And its formula is HOCH2COOH.

Acetic acid is H3CCOOH.

They are both Acids (the COOH part) But they arnt the same.

Ok, lets see if I can do this without injuring myself;
college kids are fine - I've got a couple of degrees myself -
There are many combinations of acidic components that are listed as Hydroxyacetic and Alpha-Hydroxyacetic acids - this basically means that it is a of or related to a group of acids found in the skins of most citrus fruits and in green leafy vegetables.
Acetic acid is CH3CH20H (I hate not having sub and superscript)
the formula for one of these Glycolic Acids is C2H4O3/HOCH2COOH
and it is one of the Alpha-hydroxyacetic acids
from the International Occupational Health and safety org OSI here:
www.ilo.org/public/eng...sc1537.htm

I can only hope that it doesn't split over the line break/
As you see the name is just not enough to completely define which of these acids we are talking about. So we could both be right and coming at it from different directions

PaulS,

The thing is its a related acid but I'm sure Acetic Acid doesnt cause "Abdominal pain. Burning sensation. Shock or collapse." when you have some Shocked I know my stomic doesnt hurt and need medical attention after having alot of vinger. Laughing

A smiliar chemical doesnt mean it will react the same. Even some medications can be deadly just based on the direction and type of bond used in the formula eventhoug they share the same composition. Smile I forget the classic example used in chemistry text books though. Sad

But here is alittle tid bit on Isomers:

Quote::
There are many examples of drugs in which the activities of the two forms, or isomers, are quite different. One example is the difference in pharmacological activity between the two isomers of the antidepressant sertraline (Zoloft). The right-handed version in this pair is a potent and selective inhibitor of the protein responsible for reuptake of the neurochemical messenger serotonin into cell membranes; the left-handed version has none of this activity.
