Seems all 50 states have some sort of secession movement.

I wonder if this is something that happens every time there's an election. It seems so unanimous and all at once, like it's a routine. Twilight Zone is here to stay for a while but there's still some that are trying to adjust the TV set. It makes me more comfortable to know there are that many people as upset as I am about the election results, but it makes me uncomfortable thinking that it may have been rigged, and this kind of reaction makes it appear that the election wasn't all it was supposed to be. I don't want to be around for a revolt, but would love to see it in some form. Just impeach the SOB....why aren't there petitions for that? States are strong, but not against the Fed., I would believe an impeachment would be easier, at least with the signatures already at hand. I don't suppose that's a petition process tho....I dunno....I'm sure some Greek from Canada will pipe in on that one.

I've never seen anything this wide spread before. I guess there have been debates over secession vs revolution, apparently secession was considered illegal while revolution isn't.

Interesting quote:

"Any people anywhere being inclined and having the power have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right — a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people that can may revolutionize and make their own of so much of the territory as they inhabit."

Any guesses as to who said it?

Normally every election for the last few I hear calls for people giving up and moving to Canada.

But that is mainly the Democrat supporters who say that as they view Canada as some sort of Socialist paradise.

However, thanks to our current government, I've heard a few, very few, this year, Republicans state that they'd move up here if Obama wins a second term. But by far there were much more people claiming if Romney won they'd have moved up here.

And just like this Secessionist movement, I doubt it will go anywhere, as very few every election carry out the threat to leave the US.

Secession is just the Republican way of dealing with a bad election, it is unpatriotic to outright leave the country if the election doesn't go your way, so instead of leaving your home, how about secession, since the Tea Party et al, are all about States Rights.

Dimitri

It is about State's rights. It is about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. In spite of the one (yes 1) supreme court opinion on the right of cesation Texas was accepted as a State with that right specified in it's constituion which was in turn accepted by the federal government. The opinion was rendered just after the civil war by an all republican court, the same republicans whom Lincoln represented as president. No members of the court were from the south - they had been purged like the senate and congressional seats. The southern states were represented by "carpet baggers" from the north due to the "lack of confidence" that the union felt for the south.

Prior to the election, for years, many states have had the topic come up in their respective state congresses. some of them have on the books a cesation clause. This isn't limited to one party or another but a general discontentment fo the spendthrift attitude of both parties.

Dimitri is correct when he says "nothing will come from it" as far as these petitions go. The problem will resurface at a later date though in a much stronger way. When (in twenty years or so) the feds tax the states more and have nothing left to give after paying the interest on our debt there will be a revolution - peaceful or not. Many of us will live to see it but few will remember the warnings.
