:-D The 45-70 pistol that I'm attemping to aquire is called a magnum research-"BFR"(appropriate)!It is all stainless -weighs about 4.++lbs,has a 5 shot cylinder, long barrel-10.5"(guess).Single action. No real need except ones own ego!I don't think that any of the 50 cal magnums(pistols)are equal in ballistics! Shocked

When I took my Ohio concealed carry course, I rented one of those and put a box of cartridges through it while others were plinking away with 22 LR handguns. I didn't think it was that bad to shoot. It is NOT the equal to Smith & Wesson's 460 and 500 magnums which I've shot quite a bit.

Here we go, Marlin 1894 Cowboy in .45 Colt.

Replaced the rear sight with this buckhorn/ladder sight. The buckhorn makes a pretty good "ghost ring" for fast, up close shooting.

The ladder sight worked well out at 400 yards.

The German silver front blade stands out a bit better for me.

My vote goes with Pumpkinslinger. Even standard loads in a rifle will average 300-500 fps faster than when in a revolver. With the .45 Colt using the heavier range of bullets you have the equivalent of a 45/70 "lite". It is safer to up the load with a .45 than with a .44 Magnum since as caliber increases, pressure decreases with comparable bullet weights. The Marlins are built for stout and are capable of handling any pressures safe in a Ruger.

Hodgdon lists loads for the .444 Marlin and 30/30 Winchester in the 40,000 - 42,000 cup range. The hottest loads they list for "Ruger and T/C" firearms only just break 30,000 cup or so. Lots of room for safety.
