The prairie dog pups are coming out now in the area I live so I ll be going out with a 17 HM2, and 17 HMR rifles this week. The pups are dumb so there will a lot of shots within 120 Yds for the 17 HM2 and 150 Yds for the 17 HMR rifle. Prairie dogs get muzzle blast smart so I start out with the rimfire rifles. I have ordered a CZ 17 Hornet Varmint rifle but they are hard to find . So I ll get out the 17 Fireball later this summer should I not get a 17 Hornet by then.

They implemented a stupid Prairie Dog season in my state to protect pups till they grow older. If it becomes any more popular I dont doubt my state will require a license to hunt them. Stupid.
Loads of fun prarie dogging though.

They did the same several years ago here in Illinois for groundhogs. End of March to the first of June is closed. I can kind of go along with it since it protects the little ones from losing mama while still nursing, but by the first of June most fields have crops tall enough to hide the darned things!
