Not sure what is happening. It must be a server issue as I only hit send once. It only happens when I post from my cellphone. The second copy of the earlier message must have been stored in some cache in the cell system.

Well...it's a shooter. WOO HOO I spent some time running the barrel in - 5 single shots cleaning thoroughly between each shot, then 5 groups of 5 shots, again cleaning between each group.

Then into some load testing. Best load so far is 24.5gr of Benchmark 8208 pushing a 50gr SP bullet...less than MOA.

Time to settle down now and do some more reloading.

Yup, she's a good'un mate...and so gentle to shoot. I certainly plan on enjoying the experience that's for sure.

Okay, I am at a loss for what is happening with my posts. I only send once but multiple copies seem to be posted. I am truly sorry for the this. How do I delete a post?

Are you sure you didn't come in close contact with Slimjim? He suffered from the same disease a while ago...

It happens, usually a bug in the browsers. Its easy enough for mods to delete duplicates.

Vince, back to the original topic, I shoot Hornady SP in 55 grain. I found CFE223 to be the most accurate in my Savage for this weight and then Varget, 8208, and H335 very close. Benchmark has given me inconsistent results. I liked Reloder 10 but can't find it anymore. I am going to try Win 748, IMR 3031 and IMR4320, all powders I have for other rifles. My Lee manual lists a recipe for Clays for a sub-sonic (945fps) that I might try with some cast lead bullets I got from a friend. All this to say reloading for the. 223 has lots of options. Hope you have lots of fun finding your best load.

Okay found the problem. On occasion I hit back on my cellphone or tablet browser after making a reply rather than selecting the forum list from the menu. This takes me to the screen that confirms my post. The result is a repost. Now the stock Android device browser will continue to go back through your history even though you may not have had the browser open for a few days. The result, if you go back to a post confirmation is the same, a reposting.
Another mystery solved. Surprised

Spent an enjoyable morning at the range today. I had a few different loads to test so I was looking forward to some decent recoil therapy (goodness knows I need it, it hasn't been a good week for me).

I tried a number of different projectiles (50gr, 52gr, 55gr, 62gr, 64gr and 69gr) and powders (AR2206H, BM2, AR2208 and Benchmark 8208). Results were varied with the projectiles that showed most promise being the 50gr Sierra, 55gr VMAX and 69gr HPBT. All powders delivered the goods as expected.

Long story short, I have sorted a 50gr load using 27gr of AR2208 (Varget) - see pic below. I have more work to do with more loads, but that is all part of the fun. I am going to concentrate on some 55gr VMAX loads using Benchmark 8208. After that it will depend on the availability of component bullets.

The group below, at 100 metres, is four shots cutting one another and one pulled shot (Range Officer blew the horn for a check fire wtf Mad Laughing ). The group is less than 10ml centre to centre of the four shots. I'm happy with this load.

Vince, do you measure distances in mililiter down there?

Now that is a sweet group. The rifle is a shooter and obviously the shooter is a rifleman.

Yes Aloys...we became all metrified some years ago mate, although I still think in feet and inches. If I want a measurement to really mean anything to me I always convert it from metric to imperial because I can visualise feet and inches better in my mind.

Thanks Mac...I must admit, I was pretty chuffed when I looked through the spotting scope and saw the group. This group is all the load and the rifle mate, although I think I must have had all the planets aligned and held my mouth in just the right way to have the Gods of shooting smile down on me.

Vince, it could help when you start using mm or cm (milimeter or centimeter) for distances and ml, cl, l (mililiter, centiliter, liter) for volumes... Smile

25,4 mm in 1"
30,48 cm in 1 feet

the difficulty starts with tooth-paste when one of your little grandchildren says that there is about 3,4 m tooth-paste in 1 tube and your wife discovers how the little one knows this...
