Other than the 62gr MSR (made by Speer), I haven't seen a bullet in a 16" barrel expand much past 150 yards. They start to open then tumbler.

Just got me 200 rounds of 62gr Fusion MSRs. PSA had them on sale for $9.99.

Elvis, one cannot buy the 62gr Fusion MSR as a components. These were full-up rounds.

While not the 65g GameKing originally mentioned, the 55g GameKing HPBT seems to really want to shoot. Still doing load workup but 24.9 to 25.7g of H4895 with a CCI 400 in R-P brass is doing 1/2-3/4" at 100 yards.

I have about 450 left in the box.
If your rifle has a 1:14 twist like my old .222 788 rem, they make a loverly keyhole at any speed you can drive them.
Sierras latest reloading manual has a note about twist rate.
I dont think you'll have an issue Pumpkin.

Aloys,
Whats the twist in your Sabitti?

Pete, I still didn't measured the twist, but I've been looking at the Sabatti factory and standard they use a twist of 14" in their .222 Rem. (which seems to me rather slow for a 63 grs bullet)

Now if I could also find the twist of a single shot Baikal in .222 Rem, because I know that will handle the 45 grs Sierra's Hornet bullet too, but NOT the 63 grs SMP...

Or I have to start looking again for that small tool that Gerard Schultz of GS-Bullets once showed to measure the twist of a rifle...

Well, it's easier to ask a question than to answer it Smile

Aloys
To measure twist just use your cleaning rod and suitable bore brush.
Insert rod and brush just into barrel, mark rod with small dot near handle, mark rod just where it enters barrel, push rod into barrel until the dot near the handle returns to the same point it started.
Mark the rod at the barrel.
Remove rod and measure between the 2 dots.
That is your twist rate.
Cheers mate.

I have run the SGK 65gr with great results with my 24" 1/8 HB AR. Hell on coyotes and large vermin. Will knock down deer to but I don't hunt deer with .223 rem. I have had it out to 500 yds and groups well. Good general purpose little thumper.

Wow! It's really disappointing to see how old this thread is and realize that I still haven't had time to do any testing!!

yip I know just how you feel....I loaded up 10 x 110grn barnes for my poohseventy...3 into target 3 into chammy and the other 4 still sitting in box along with remainder of 15 sample pack of 150 grn partitions bought 3 years ago.....mind you though I refuse to waste them into paper and have shot 3 deer with them....
about to start some 110grn hornady hp loads in poohseventy for hunting buddy..... thinking to start 52grns win 760 and go up in full grain lots to 56 and see what it prefers then tootoo from there,I loaded these for myself years back and accuracy wasnt flash as didnt bother working at it,terminal preformance was explosive to say the least with projectile path being very consistant on wallabies a hole/cavity/mushed area the size and shape of 1.5ltr plastic coke bottle being the norm...called them lightning bolts.

Indeed.
I've only just got round to ordering some to try in the 22-250.
It has a 1:10 twist barrel, so should stabilise them.
I'll admit to having a hankering for a 1:7 twist barrel (rifle's an S&L so a barrel change takes 5 minutes & no headspacing issues). That way, I could see what some of the heavier hunting bullets from other sources would do.

mate when you see what a 50grn barnes ttsx will do to animal the size of a red you will realize there is no need......if you want to go 80grn you might as well just buy a .243 and be done with it IMHO.

I already have a .243 with handloads from 55gr to 100gr.

I don't think "need" is really part of the equation...
