CPL Concealed Carry...

Is it required (in Michigan) To carry your green card, (safety inspection certificate), along with of course your Concealed Pistol Licence, when carrying a hand gun? I've heard that it is not required any more..My instructor, and my local police said I do, and a bunch of guys on another forum said you don't. I do carry it and always will, I was just wondering.

Check with your Attorney Generals Office. That is your best source of a legal opinion in your state. Never trust rumors and third party legal opinions.

Just for grins, call your local Sheriff Office, Police Department, and County Attourney's Office. I'm willing to bet you will receive more that one 'correct' answer. In the end it is the State Attorney Generals Opinions that count.

Don't know the exact law, but, it doesn't hurt! One other word of advice. When stopped by law enforcement DO NOT say the word gun, weapon, or anything close to it! The advice I received from a brother in law who is a deputy in central michigan is to put the CPL out the window on top of your license and registration.

He told me of a situation in which he was called to do a swing by for a routine traffic stop by one of his newer deputies. He was only maybe a minute behind the new guy that made the stop. As he pulled up behind the other officers car he saw the officer remove the driver from the car via the open drivers side window. Shocked

The new guy said that when he got to the guys car, he annouced that he had a gun! Before the driver could fully explain that he also had the CPL, the officers training kicked in and out he came.

Lucky for both of them that the officer didn't draw his service pistol and start shooting Embarassed

. After the driver had kissed the blacktop and was wearing a new pair of cufflinks, he explained about the CPL and was helped up. He realized that maybe he should of said it in a different way.

I have been stopped a couple of times while carrying concealed. The CPL went out the window, the officer asked if I had it with me, I said yes, I asked if he wanted it, he said no thats ok, and everything went smooth. In both cases they never asked me to produce the "Green Card", but I always have it.

I don't know where you are at in Michigan, but here in the center of the state the working conditions are getting worse for the cops. They have to be a little more keyed up because of the increase of trouble they are running into.

Carrying the cards is ok with me because at least we can get the CPL now. It used to be if you weren't the best friend of the local police chief you would never get one.

I carry my Driver Licence and CPL in it's own separate single fold wallet, made just for this, so when I'm asked for my licence it's all together, no digging for it.

Hi

I drill with my Indiana concealed carry license as much as I do with my Taurus PT100. Maybe more, since the ammo is so much less expensive:

"Hello officer. I have an Indiana state concealed firearm carry license, and I am armed."

As to the safety inspection: Indiana doesn't require one!

Nor does it require a competancy test!!

I wish it did, though. I trust ME to keep my firearm in safe working order, and to stay familiar with its operation and use, but all those other Hoosiers out there just plain SCARE me.

Also, If they required a competancy test, the local police would almost have to have and operate (or at least sponsor) a shooting range. That'd make it lots easier to stay in practice. I also kind of think that a firearms safety course would be a good idea.

They closed the local publicly accessable police shooting range so that Indiana University, who actually owned the land on which it was built, could put in a new golf course for big-contributor alums.

Funny that. Using STATE funds to close the Indiana University Police Academy's shooting range AND to build a private-access golf course.

In the past, I just include the permit with the drivers lisence, never once have been asked to provide the inspection certificate, or the weapon itself, I recieved my warning or ticket and was on my way.
