well ripper007, I have several Bushnell scopes & I think they are great. I get the impression you think it was the cheap way out, & it's not. I have more expensive scopes and they don't improve my shooting over a Bushnell.

I don't have the varminter barrel & maybe it needs to be broken in they way you have decided. My black gun I just shot & shot & shot, claeaning it after every shooting event. Accuracy has not been an issue and I shoot between 200 & 300 yards typically. In one day I'll shoot anywhere from 200 to 400 rounds & the only concern I have is how hot the barrel gets, though it continues to be accurate. If the barrel goes, then it goes, I'll get another barrel. It's like shooting a brick of 22 LR thru my 10/22, I shoot & shoot & shoot... Pistol Shooting The gun is just fun to shoot & I can't keep off the trigger, & then I get to reload, just as much fun Very Happy Has anyone ever really had a problem shooting so many rounds thru these black guns?
Keep it coming...

Thanks George,
, I am realy glad to hear this about the bushnell scope.
the only problem I have seen with this scope is when I turn up the magnifing level to 12. then the focus gets blurry. I do like the Objective Lens Aperture.
and I have allways used a bushnell scope since I was about 15 or 16. my cousin had one on his 223 dear riffle in texas. I killed my first deer with that gun at a little over 200 yards.

I could shoot a gun all day long and not get board. between my cousin and I, we would go threw 2 bricks of 22's a day.

now after shooting this new bushmaster 223, wow, I am impressed. the recoil is not bad, and I know after shooting it after a while I will get use to the trigger pull with the pistal grip. this is my first time to shoot a gun like this.

I did buy and have already recived 2 , 20 round clips . I went with 20 round clips instead of 30 round. I dont know how true it is , but I read a few articals about how well the 20 round clips are, less or no hang ups. better feed. true or not, I also like the length of the 20 rounds.

I am still planning on ordering the peep sights for this gun, some time next month.

hopefully my next day off, I will get to go to the shooting rang and realy get this gun sighted in , and see what it can do. I am excited about seeing how accurate this gun is.
after seeing results of guys grouping 2.5" at 300 yards. I was impressed.

even if I do not shoot that good, as long as I know the gun can do it. i'll be happy.

Ripper007, did the gun come with a five round clip? If not, you may want one of those for legal hunting. Most states limit you to five rounds when hunting. I bought 10, 20, & 30 round magazines I use at the range. As I may have mentioned before, with high capacity magazines, you tend to shoot more & the barrel gets hot. Though it does, it hasn't affected the accuracy.

I think you will be pleased, My Varminter will consistantly break eggs at 200 yards with very little problems.

yes, the gun did come with a 5 round clip. that is what I have been using for now.

shot it another 5 rounds today. about 110 yards.

it was another quick shooting event before I had to get to work.

was shooting at a 1 1/2 " squar on a pice of plywood.

out of 5 shots, it group about 1 1/2" group. but I did adjust the scope one click up or down, left or right , after every shoot.
did it this way just to tring to get the gun close to being accurate, before I go shoot it for real tomorrow. I actualy have the day off from work. lol.

every time I made one click adjust ment, it would shoot amost exactly 1" away from the shot before. I was expecting it to only move a 1/4" for each click. ? but it was consitant and was exactly straight up and down and horizonlal.

tomorrow, I will start shooting 5 shots in a row before making any scope adjustments.

another question, I forgot to ask earlier.

bushmaster recommended cleaning procceedures. and in it, they made this comment.
Quote::
Recommended procedure for thorough cleaning: In all cases it is vital that cleaning tools (brushes, patches, etc.) be pushed from the breech toward the muzzle and then removed from the rod at the muzzle end. DO NOT drag anything back through the muzzle.

before this, I have allways pushed every thing from the muzzle down. and ran it threw several times till it was clean.

removing the tip every time and going the other way is taking me about 3 times longer to clean this gun.

is the bushmasters way of cleaning this gun the way every one else cleans thier's ??

and does it realy make a difference ? I dont know. but for this gun , thier way is how I have been cleaning it.

Obviuosly, their way is the technically correct way, and it works. But, that would be advice for the novice and liability issues. I'm sure, like the rest of us, we don't see the need for following the letter of the law, so to speak.

Now, if you clean the way you've done in the past, I'm sure you're doing a fine job, & I'll even bet you take time to look down the barrel to see how good a job you did, & you even oiled the bore to preserve the barrel until you were ready to shoot again, knowing you'd patch the barrel again to make sure it was dry prior to shooting it, like you should Bonk

You can do it their way or your way & I'm sure your way will be best because you are doing things that weren't a part of their procedure, but what you felt was right.

By the way, I got one of those rope style cleaning things that has the brush built in, nothing to take apart, and all I do after shooting is pull it thru the barrel several times and oil the barrel. Now and then I do my style of super cleaning Yuck

The point they are trying to make is, "BE CAREFUL WITH THE CROWN ON THE MUZZEL" this is the last point the bullet touches the rifleing and makes the last impression on bullet flight, dont nick, gouge, or ding the muzzle crown.

Actually the reason for pushing your cleaning rod from breech to the muzzle is to keep the chamber and action clean. You only protect the bore if you use a guide - and you should if you care about your gun.
If you push all the dirt, ash and carbon fouling from the muzzle into the chamber, some of it will find its way into the action and some of it will stay in the chamber. So you put in another round and embed that carbon and dirt into the chamber wall when you fire it. Scratched chambers are made - they don't "just happen". Further-more the carbon that gets into the trigger, bolt and other moving parts grind away at the nice polish you have on the trigger, sear and bolt.

If your useing the appropreiate rod guide you wont get the chamber dirty in the first place, In the second place, you should clean the AR type rifle from the chamber end, not the muzzle end.
thirdly, the explanation I gave in the last post came from there gunsmith, I had the same ?? and called them directly.

Worthy comment to note. I experienced this problem. I knew not to clean a barrel from the muzzle end, but, had a Browning auto that made it difficult to clean from the chamber. Even though I was extra careful, I noticed a change in accuracy. A trip to a gunsmith resulted in a recrowning and everything was fine after.

What Paul wrote about has merit as well. You should have an "order" to the cleaning process. Mine is: barrel first, then chamber, barrel & chamber touch-up, action, external metal parts & stock.

Yes I agree. Pauls comment has merrit. But...Bushmaster told me the reason to clean from the chamber and not pull brushes back throught the muzzel is for that very reason,(protection of the crown) thats it in a nut shell.
If you choose to clean from the muzzle, for gods sake..... buy a good muzzle rod guide.....they make them!

Sinclair international, Dillon Precision, Midway USA. They all make rod guids for the muzzle of "some" rifles.
