I know its out there....I've seen it somewhere....just can't remember where!!! Must be the dreaded CRS.

I'm looking for the formulae used to recalculate (estimate) a bullet's velocity when reducing the powder charge. Yeah, I know...put it over a chrono to be certain.... but I'm doin' the hypertheticals first...the "what ifs"....oh yeah, and when I get enough Oscar Scholars together I'll be able to buy a chrono. Very Happy

I actually thought that there was something in Point Blank, but if it is I can't find it. In the meantime I would like to have a bit of an idea as to what velocity I can expect from a reduced load. So there ya go, anybody that can assist will be showered with good words. Very Happy Razz

Cheers, Vince

Vince, reloading manuals give you the starting load and max load will give you the range. Some manuals give the mid range load and others list a reduced load.

Vince,
Vince you are in need of this data:

kwk.us/powley_notes.html

kwk.us/powley.html

I have an original slide rule Powley computer and a revised electronic version designed by an engineer, using other powders than IMR. But the revised version is based on massive data not formulas, as far as I know. The electronic program inventor is now deceased.

SwampFox,
Thanks for the link Very Happy - now I will go have some fun now. I was going to suggest Powley Slide rule but I did not know it was available electronic. Also saw where they sell a slide rule?

Another way -Vince you could get close is use PB. Find the actual drop at different range and come up with velocity for those drops but it would be a PITA
Have good Day
James

FYI Vince you can get a refurb Chrony for around 50$ + S at there web site

Thanks guys. You have given me plenty to work with. Aweseome.

Popgun, I have the min and max loads from my reloading manual, but what I want to do is reduce the load by 1/2 a grain and get a close approximation of velocity with the reduced load. This will tell me if the load will sort of meet my needs without going through the process of loading, travelling an hour to the range only to find out that it isn't really suitable, then of course and hour drive home. Of course I wouldn't take just one load to the range, and regardless of the load I decide upon I still have to test it, but it would be good to have a close idea of the velocity.

Once again, thanks for all your help guys.

Cheers, Vince
