Ant one findding empty shelves at the store? A year ago I couldn't get federal primers, 6 months a go all most all the primers are out of sock. Now powders are going out of stock. I was told at the start of all this that theorder was held up at customs. Now the word is even factory ammo will see some pressure. Any one in the states seeing the same thing?

Rumour here is that the miltary is using all the Federal manufacturing capacity as well as Alliant's RL-22 powder. Both are scarce now.

Reloaders often create their own shortages by way of rumor. Rumors hit the net about shortages of product which incites higher buying levels which, in turn, reduce inventories and "presto" we have a self fulfilling rumor.

Federal has reallocated production capacity to military useage primers and most Federal primers have been recently scarce. Months ago Federal was advising distributors of the pending shortfall of Federal public inventory. Many distributors passed on the information to retailers who then had the opportunity to increase their own inventories. Most didn't. CCI and Winchester primers have been received without unusual backorder status. All powders have been received without notable backorder status. Prices increase with each order.

Local and Federal regulations stipulate quantities of powder that can be stored without useage of a dedicated powder storage facility (in and of itself, easy to make). For reloaders, a general rule of thumb is to carry at least a six month inventory of supplies -- powder, primers and bullets, if feasible. This will preclude normal shortages at distributor levels.

Fortunately, the quality of components are such that interchanging components usually has minor effect except to re-establish load data. Primers may have more of a role in reloaded cartridge accuracy than many suspect and the shortage of Federal GM205Ms, GM215M, for example, is difficult to compensate and achieve the same accuracy levels. CCI BR series is an excellent option, but, they have seldom been as popular as the Federal Match and their inventory status at distributor levels has seemed to be less. As such, reloaders are discovering how superb are the Winchester series primers in many applications especially if using progressive presses and shooting quantities of handgun ammo. High brissilance has always favored the WLRM for magnum capacity rifle cases or to ignitie higher volumes of ball powders.

Hi Southpaw, glad to see that there are some more Sask boys around.
I have been having trouble getting primers for the last while and have been picking them up in Regina here a few hundred at a time.
I was advised by few people in Calgary that all primers are getting scarce.
I do not if you have heard this or not but supposedly Wholesales Sports has bought Russells out and I also was just told that Cabelos is coming to Canada.
There is supposedly going to be a shortage this fall of powders as well so you may want to pick up what you need.

I guess it depends where you are in the country. I just bought 2 boxes of 1000 count federal small rifle primers. The store had plenty left.

How would Canada be doing that, exactly? As far as I know, most of our firearms, accessories, loading components etc are manufactured in the u.s. and shipped north for sale. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
