Can some one explian how the bullet hits 1 inch above center at 30 yards and ten inches above at 100 yards confused and concerned.

My goodness.....this creates a bit of a dilemma.

You say 1" high at 30 yards and 10" high at 100 yards.....interesting problem. After shooting the 30 yard target, then the 100 yard target, did you go back and shoot both ranges/targets again? If so, did you get the same results? If you didn't go back and reshoot and confirm you initial results you need to do so to rule out problems with the scope or its mounting.

I'm not familiar with this particular calibre so I'm not in a position to advise in that area, however on a general note....it could well be that there is a real problem with your rounds. From what you wrote I am assuming that they are handloads?? If so, I would very seriously consider (I'D DO IT) pulling a couple of bullets and check your load. Also, you didn't list your load data.....there are some extremely experienced and knowledgeable handloaders amongst us here and I feel certain that listing your load data will give them the opportunity to critique this part of the equation as well.

Additionally, I would be having a look at the rifle as well. Is it a new firearm? Have you had it for a while; if so has it always been a "good shooter"? Have you done anything to the rifle since it last produced accurate results? Did you boresight the rifle or was it done at a shop? Check the crown...has it been damaged. 30 yards isn't that far, but 100 yards is starting to get out there. A problem at the muzzle will only get worse the farther away the target is...like 1" off at 30 yds then 10" off at 100 yds.

The more info you can provide, the better the chance that someone will be able to pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Let us know how things are going mate.

Cheers, Vince

I have the rifle for a while just purchased the scope nikon 6.5X20 4mm had it mounted and bore sightred by gun store the ammo is retail winchester ballistic silver tips 150 gr went to new scope this year for two reasons last the gun was a wallmart purchase with a cheap scope and it would not hold zero spent the bucks on better scope also thought I try supposedly better ammo used to shoot remington core lokt in 175 gr.
a two day doe season comes in on firday so I need to get this corrected to answer your other question did I re shoot at `100 the answer is no but made no changes in elevastion on the scope at the gun shop the guy stated he needed to shim the scope cause he did not think I would have enough elevation adjust ments on the scope if he did not the scope has 1/8 inch increments this is very frustrating think I should try 175 gr with the new scope and get ridd of the winchester superme 150 gr stuff ?

thanks

I shoot the same load in my Savage 116, 7mm. mag. I don't think it is the loads your shooting, It must be the scope. I would take it back to the shop, they messed something up in the mounting process or the scope is defective. Or the gun shop is...Good luck What brand , mod. rifle is it?
How many shots did you shoot? What type of rest?

Like I said before the scope is more than likely your problem, loose, mounted incorrectly, etc. as for the types of loads your trying, your rifle will shoot some better than others but you still should get it to hit better than it is at that range. The heavier loads will hit lower, but not that much. You have to get the scope right first. Check to see if the scope/mounts are loose or even check your fore arm screw on your rifle for tightness. Don't over tighten your scope ring screws. Good Luck

When they set it up for you they should have shimmed it to get you close with the adjustments in the center, you might have to take it back.

Sounds like a good idea, I would put my adjustments back to center, Turn the adjustment knob all they way then count the turns the other way till it bottoms out then go half the turns to center, then start out at 25 yds until you get it to hit dead on then move back to 50 yd. which it should hit a little high, 1" or less then go back to 100. As you know each click is 1/8" adjustment at 100 yards.

As far as the .338 win mag, it's a hard to beat round. I have a Ruger M77 chamberes in .338 win mag. I live in Michigan, so I don't really have a lot of use for it, but I did take it out deer hunting on year....way overkill. I'm not familar with the 300 win mag, so I can't honestly give you my .02 on it. I have heard numerous good things about it though. Sorry I can't be of more help.

took two does withthe new scope one yesterday by me and one today by wife specail two day doe season. still contiplating the 300 win mag vs the 338 win mag. I realize th e300 win mag and 338 win mag are way over kill for deer put want it for elk and bear really but will probaly also use it for deer.

thanks
