Yes Hoppes Bench Rest #9 is a copper solvent as well but I've never used it and was strictly referring to good old plain Hoppes #9. Smile

Wow... you people sure seem passionate about your cleaners!

I personally use Sweets 7.62, its strong enough to eat copper and clean your sinuses at the same time Very Happy

I've used a ton of Hops #9 over the years in my shotgun... seems it was the default gift my mom would get us come Christmas time. I do like the smell of it. I've tried a bunch, havent tried the one windswalker mentioned cuz I've never seen it before for sale. Out of what I have tried, sweets seemed to be the best against copper fouling.

In my frontstuffer's, the best cleaner I've used by far is plain old Windex. Cuts fouling like you wont believe and evaporates quickly making it ideal for in-field cleanings.

I have an uncle that I dont think ever cleaned his gun... prolly 30 years of crap built up in his .308, always managed to kill a deer somehow... usually in the middle of the deepest canyon he can find Sad

What I mentioned is not a cleaner at all, and it's not for sale over the counter...but it can be bought as a kit via mail order, or you can send your barreled action to them and they will apply it.

It's a coating, that for all intents and purposes eliminates the need for intense cleaners, continuous scrubbing, and the use of any kind of brush.

Dimitri will likely never try it............

I have it in my rifles and swear by it...all it takes to remove any kind of fouling that IS there is a quick shot of Brake Cleaner and a couple of patches. I threw out all my brushes.......

You start with an absolutely clean barrel, apply the Ultra Bore Coat, wait for it to dry...then fire the gun a few times to "seat" it.

It does not reduce the bore size by anything significant and more or less just "stains" the metal as it soaks into the pores.

What it DOES for you after proper application is reduce the fouling during normal firing to almost nothing, leaving you a bore that can be fired more times between cleanings, and a bore that may or may not foul baddly fouling less......which helps the inherent accuracy of the weapon.

It has ALSO been tested as a rust PREVENTATIVE on Chrome Moly barrels, and I'm here to say it will do that. It's even been tested on a CM muzzleloader left dirty from a day of shooting real black powder....THAT barrel was left for WEEKS with no sign of corrosion in the bore.

Charley Sisk can even tell ya all about it.

Some Snake Oils DO work, despite what the Experts can like to say..............

LINK: Ultra Bore Coat...Talk to Doug Burche at Ultra Coatings, tell him I sent ya, he's a friend of mine....................

Should add that the BEST copper REMOVER on the market, should you need one, is made by Barnes Bullets.......tested and used by the best.

I for one am not passionate about the cleaner - I just like a clean gun. My dad used Hoppes and I have always used it. I don't know of any others - Its the one I recognize. It has kept my rifles shooting 1/2 MOA groups over the last 30 odd years of shooting - well, that and the loading I do with the components I choose. Just one part of a system that has always worked for me.
