In America we mince about putting fences on the border to keep the hoards of Mexicans on their side. Canada wants a fence, I have heard, to keep Americans on their side. It would be a huge and expensive project. But, my Australian friend tells me that her country has the longest fence, one built from the N to the S to keep dingos from crossing.

Since Australian folks often exaggerate their abilities in, for example, drinking beer, boxing with kangaroos, etc, I sometimes view such information as slightly suspect.

So, Vince and others Down Under, do you really have a dingo fence? Constructed of what? How tall? Effective? or just poppycock?

I am not a Aussie but I can say yep! they have one and it works pretty good on all the animals. We need to hire them to build one for taco control here.

I know its probably been talked about on American news, but let me be the first to say, don't let the Socialists in Canada who whine and complain loudly think we all want their dream of a fence to keep the "Americans" on the other side of the "boarder". Rolling Eyes

Every country has a right to protect its boarders, and to protect them with what ever means required to do the job. Otherwise its pretty useless to call it a boarder.

All things considered I'd rather have a more open boarder with the USA. Cool

While I normaly don't like wikipedia (it's the teacher in me) here is the link to the Dingo Fence.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingo_Fence
As for a fence with Canada, if they want it go for it. But then again I really don't like the "wall" idea with Mexico. A fence or at least something that shows the boarder yes.

Gidday Handy...yep, there is such a fence mate.

Thanks to Duce and rdncktnk for the confirming info.

How would you like the job of travelling along the fence doing repairs as necessary? It wasn't all that long ago that there were a couple of teams of guys still doing it on horseback.

Cheers, Vince

The fence is really to stop those pesky southerners moving into "beautiful one day and perfect the next" Queensland.

It's not the native Canadians that bother me, but the lackadaisical immigration control by the Canadian government that bothers me. There is probably a higher percentage of illegal aliens in Canada than in the US, but it doesn't get a lot of press. Heck, I've had Canadians tell me that half of Vancouver was illegal aliens. And Canadian passports are notorious for their ability to be faked (I have seen a few faked ones - I cannot tell them from the real ones). For a lot of people wanting to get into the USA for any purpose, the northern border is easier to cross than the southern one. Remember that Mohammedan clown they caught a few years ago trying to cross over from Canada with a big bomb?

Phil,

Sadly your right, our governments total lack of action through the last 2 decades, yes even less action then the US Governments actions against illegals (if you can believe) it sucks!

Canada's immigration policies are pretty easy to fallow legally (dare I say easier then the USA's policies), and the last couple of years with the Current goverment goes to start deporting them and the media claims they are "kicking out hard working people" and "productive people" and start talking about giving amnesty. Rolling Eyes

D,

I have this theory about people who spend their entire working lives as employees of government. It includes the concept of gumption, if you get my drift.

This is so true.

They need to tighten up the immegration laws, cut the refugee status out completely. We have too many terrorists in our country that came in as refugees.

My opininion is that if a refugee gets caught commiting a crime, any crime, DEPORTATION to their own country should follow upon conviction, no questions asked.

FWIW I came to Canada in 1966 from England.

But back on topic, yes the fence exists, I watched a documentary on the 'roo problem and they drove the road beside the fence, singed too. This was 3 years or so ago.

The problem with illegal aliens crossing our (US) southern border is that most people (from the north and east) have no idea how massive this invasion has become. If you are on the southern border staring at the brunt of it, it's amazing how your prospective will change. Northerners and easterners only see the poor little gardener mowing the lawns in rich neighborhoods or the cleaning lady working so hard, doing jobs that the rich Americans won't do. You won't get to see the future results of allowing this to continue, but your grandchildren and great grandchildren will cuss our generation for the apathy we have for our national security and the lack of the recognition of our "Borders, Language, and Culture."
