Shocked

Thank you Deer Sniper for the pictures...
Great works!! as usual!!

Now after I wipe all the goo off my keeboard's plastic cover questions..

1. How do you mate the stub with the new barrel? welded, threaded ???
2. Would the jointing go loose after some shots?
3. What happened to the engraved writings on the side of the stubs? do you polish it off?
4. How do you attach the fore end hanger to the barrel?

Thank you Sir, I appreciate it....

1 - PATENTED process / build...

2 - NO...

3 - The engravings are left as is...

4 - The forend hanger is attached to the barrel with two 8-40 screws...

Deer Sniper,
Do you think a break open shotgun has the strength to make a 257 Roberts out of? I have enough metal to cut 32 TPI ACME threads in the chamber area without any problem with the metals strength one the stub. It has to have a lug as large as the H&R.........
Thinking out loud is a good thing - it can keep you from doing something stupid.
Just asking for an opinion - not placing liability (that belongs to me)

Neat Build! Very Happy

Humm, cutting a step in the barrel blank and press fitting it would work, would work better if you froze the barrel blank first though with liquid nitrogen and gave it a even tighter fit.

That's some darn nice work Sniper.
Thanks for taking the time to take the pictures.
Beautiful pieces after you finished.

Deer sniper,
Your work is excellent. I am wondering if I can use the thrust (back thust) calculation to calculate whether the action can take the recoil. I am sure that the cut-down barrel (.809") will withstand the pressure. I roll the threads so there are reduced risks of stress fractures.

As far as interference fitting the two parts, it may hold but there are stresses induced with that kind of fit that may not be conducive to long life on a high pressure rifle. I would feel more comforable with pinning the barrel if I wasn't going to thread it.

Thanks PaulS.

I know some SKS's are pinned, never really thought much of it. Still I have another idea for inserting barrels into recievers etc for cheap manufacturing.

I'll send you the idea of mine once its ready to be shown to the world. Wink
