Years ago I worked in nuclear security, at a power plant. As part of a class on "cover and concealment" we did a "firepower demonstration" to show the folks with limited gun experience what some of the various handgun and rifle rounds would do. Standard blowing up water jugs, etc. I was asked to shoot my Mini-14, with 55 grain SPs, at a section of I-beam 50 yards away. I refused at first, worried about ricochets. Then I angled the beam some so anything that bounced would go into the woods beside the range (nothing back there that could be dangerous). I fired three rounds at the beam. I was astonished at the three perfect little holes through the steel! I wish we'd had some cardboard behind the beam to see what came through but i sure was impressed, as was everyone else.

Yup !!! They’re good for drilling a hole in steel !!!
Had a buddy do it to a set of pepper poppers with his AR.
