Hey Mark,
Yep, there's a few of us crazy ol' coyote callers around. Laughing

"maybe we can get together and hunt sometime"

That sounds good but I broke my shoulder in December and I won't be completely healed up for at least another month or so. Maybe we can hook up for a hunt a little later in the year, say towards late summer or early fall.
Some time when you are visiting eastern coyotes check out the LBL hunt section. During the first weekend in February, we have a three day get-together and coyote hunt at the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. This year looks to be our largest turn out ever with 40-60 coyote hunters from around the U.S. and Canada planning to attend. Our hunt officially starts tomorrow and ends Sunday but some people arrived last Monday and will be there into next week. I regret I will not be able to hunt this one, due to my injury. My calling partner and I are still planning on driving over to LBL Saturday to see some of our old friends and meet a bunch of new ones.
Should you ever get a chance to attend the LBL I believe you and your calling partner would enjoy meeting the gang.

Chet

Hey Mark,
Thanks for asking. Very Happy I'm still a little sore but I've healed pretty well. When ever we can work it out I would like to hook up with you for a day of coyote calling. Smile

Take care,
Chet

What .224" bullets are folks using for coyotes? I have .220 Swift and a few .223s I plan to use. I'm tinkering with an AR-15, DPMS "Lo Pro CLassic" as a short to medium range varminter. 1.5 - 6X Bushnell Elite scope. So far my handloads are troublesome (mostly due to trying to load with a "night shift brain"...) but one load using a 63 grain Sierra SMP put four rounds into 0.56" at 100 yards, with a called flyer opening the group to 1.1". If I can get over my feeding glitches it may be my most accurate rifle yet!

I'm hearing that eastern coyotes are heavier than their western kin, up to 70 lbs in some places. A local guy told me he's seen 50 pounders. Therefore I'm looking at heavier bullets, 60 grain and up. Any suggestions?
Try a Sierra 52 grain HPBT Match #1410C along with Varget Powder, Winchester Brass, Winchester primers LR in summer and Magnum in winter or below -5C/ 10F. Great round and powder combination.
