It was gifted to me by a buddy today.

Its the issued knife for the disbanded paratroop regiment and for various other specialties in the Canadian Forces.

That is one sweet looking blade 'Mitri.

Who is the manufacturer? What is the intended purpose of the knife? It looks like it will be an excellent skinner...I like the angleof the blade/handle and the shape of the blade.

Yep...reckon it will do a fine job of skinning whatever you put it to mate.

Cheers, Vince

So here is a picture of mine in specific.

That brass button popped off, so I used the rope included in the knife (seems to be similar to paracord) to fix the situation. I like the knife though, I've cut a dozen and a half things in the kitchen with it to try it out. Very Happy

That is para cord 'Mitri...in fact it looks like genuine para cord, cut from a parachute. I have about a dozen lengths of it that I cut from a military cargo parachute...have the 'chute as well tucked away somewhere.

As soon as I saw it I knew what it was! But you think I could come up with Grohmann, for the maker?? Nope sure couldn't! MAN: My brain is just going down hill! HA HA HA HA!!!! These are some really high value knives, I think that one runs somewhere between $75 to $125US.

Be interested to hear what you think of it after a year or so of "hard" use.

Well Arron,

Might not be hard use but the girlfriend has no real decent knives around, so I've been using it as a kitchen knife for the last 4 months (gawd, January 30th I moved in Shocked ), anyways, knife blade held up fine, cutting up everything from lamb legs to watermelon to you name it if its in the kitchen its done it.

Got a little dull I noticed yesterday, and 4 quick light passes with a honing stone made it good as new.

COOL! Get yourself a "angle setting" sharpening set like a Lansky or Gatco. Not sure if they are available up there or not. But well worth the money in my opinion!!!! Gald you like it! I have heard really good things on it from a guy I know from work who follows knives like I do firearms.

I had a lansky, used it once and gave it away. Prefer a small stone instead and just to do it by hand.

Dim, someone must really like you. This was known as the
Russell Belt Knife,
Military desription : Knife Belt, 5" Blade C/W Full grain leather sheath brown qty 1 each.

These knives are issued to all Airborne Qualified (AQ) members and to all members of Canadian leo's (including spooks for some reason), Canadian Airborne Regiment whose members come from all of the combat arms units and support units. It is also issued to special ground units.

I have carried this knife for almost all of my Canadian military service and continued to carry it on me in my US Army service.

All of these belt knives are made in Pictou Nova Scotia and are now made in the same factory (last I knew) by the Grohmann Company.

You can get the rivet for the closer flap from Grohmann.

I thought that the Oz army would have spools of that cord. We did. We called if 550 cord as it could hold 550 lbs. You guys were like everyone else and scavenged the old cargo chutes for it in a pinch. LOL
