2 lady reporters from the chicago tribune take up deer hunting for the first time and they give their honest perspective on hunting.

Interesting story! I'm glad they both recognized the positive aspects of hunting.

Looks like they got it...Hunting isn't about the kill. It's about being out there. The kill is, maybe, 20% of the whole package.

Well done...

Personally I wouldn't feel very comfortable with those two in the woods with me, but if they go out there enough and get some shooting under their belts.....the whole idea of them being so new to guns and then going hunting is kinda scary to me. Yes I'm glad it was a positive experience and good for hunting in general, makes you wonder how many novice hunters are out there with no real experience with guns. Those were two people with no prejudice to begin with, (about hunting) and reporters to boot, it struck me as rare and novel that they didn't whole-heartedly bash hunting from the get-go. Sounds like I'm bitching....I'm not...just sounds that way...how did you find that Omni?

That was one heck of a "scope bite" she got. Definitely didn't get enough training.

Yes Slim, your right about them not getting training they needed, (scope in the eye does hurt) but being reporters for a paper, both of them earned something in honesty I think.

That is a great story, and the best part is the way they recognise that just being out there is really what its all about.

The honesty of one of the ladies saying she is not comfortable with killing an animal, but if she wants to eat meat then this is the way to do it, is brilliant. I'm also impressed with the way the lady who was "bitten" by the scope just put it behind her and didn't make an issue out of it...which she could have done.

I agree Suz...but we were all like that at first...I know I was. Very Happy Laughing

Cheers, Vince

There is a TV series currently running on the Direct TV Current Events Channel called "Kill it, Cook it, Eat it" that was made here in the UK a year or so back.
Takes a mix of hunters, townies & anti hunting types out & has them kill rabbits, ducks, pheasants & deer.
Some of the anti's even get it but others are hung up on emotions.
