In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized to him and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back in my day."

The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. The former generation did not care enough to save our environment."

He was right, that generation didn't have the green thing in its day.

Back then, they returned their milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But they didn't have the green thing back in that customer's day.

In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks.

But she was right. They didn't have the green thing in her day.

Back then, they washed the baby's diapers because they didn't have the throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts - wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not
always brand-new clothing.

But that old lady is right, they didn't have the green thing back in her day.

Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house - not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the size of the state of Montana . In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because they didn't have electric machines to do everything for you.
When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, they used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.

Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised by working so they didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that
operate on electricity.

But she's right, they didn't have the green thing back then.

They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water. They refilled their writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and they replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the hole razor just because the blade got dull.

But they didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or rode the school bus instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour
taxi service.

They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And they didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful the old folks
were just because they didn't have the green thing back then?

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Cheers, Vince

The main problem is that there are too many people and the number is increasing every day. So instead of all these words, maybe it's better to give the right example and do something about that? Now when all these 'green people' would start to give that example starting with there own, then they don't bother me anymore and I can stay on shooting and hunting as I want.
In ancient times the men went fishing and hunting and the wives worked on the fields. I still go hunting, but I don't see the wives on the fields anymore... so what went wrong? Smile

we don't have ladders anymore, I used them all to make high seats... opening roebuck was the 15th of May...
lots of 'work' now... roebucks, varmints, rabbit damage control (I'm shooting rabbits with the 22 Hornet now since we're no longer allowed to use the .22 LR for hunting)
and I have to work on the fields myself now,
so not me who's going down just because I asked what went wrong.
(when you don't ask yourself what went wrong, how can you solve the problem then?)

and I'm not so into popcorn... no meat no eat...

Shocked Aloysius, you mean to tell me you can not use the 22LR at all for hunting? Over here thats what I use up to fox. Whats the reasoning behind this? Sad

WOW, are Belgium rabbits getting tougher now a days?

Be careful mate, it may even get up in arms and attack you with their cotton tails..

No .22 rimfire for hunting...sounds like PETA or some similar organisation has managed to win over the Government by convincing them that the rimfire is not a humane killer. Who are they trying to kid !!!!

Oh well...the .22 Hornet is a brilliant little round.

In Washington you have to use a caliber larger than .22 to hunt anything.
.243 is the smallest legal caliber.

It's rather stupid. Because everybody had at least a rifle in .22 short, long or LR in his house, it draw special attention when some 'clever' were attacking gun-ownership. So they tried to take away the reasons to keep a .22 in the house, so no rimfire anymore for hunting, even no bullets anymore for crowhunting (only shot!).
And for small game only bullets allowed for fox, rabbits and dove, not for hare, faisants, ducks, because they only may be shot with (steel) shot.

On the other hand they also want the take the heavy stuff away from the sportshooters, so they them to use only the .22 LR.
But both desires are very difficult to join in 1 law Smile

and .22 Hornet is a very fine round when it's not windy. (but according to our laws to little energy to be used on roebuck)
I use the 45 grs .224 Sierra Hornetbullet with small pistol magnum primers and revolver-magnum-powder (Vihta's N110 or PCl512). Works excellent for me (even tallow deer appreciate such a round placed where head and neck meets...) But also the Winchester HP factory round is doing all it's supposed to do.
