not much doing today after watching daughter play soccer this morning, got home had lunch and nana nap until the sobbing Sad coming from the gun cabinet got to much to bear. I grabbed the .223 and went for a quick hunt. 24kms drive Very Happy gee its great being away from the city. got to area put on the racing bullers and bolted up a loopy track fpr 2hrs man that cleared out the cobwebs climbed 300 odd mtrs before peeling off the track and hunting my way back to the car. found some red hot sign (wee wees on dry ground that were still very we Shocked t)but didnt have enough daylight left to muck around too much Sad so just wandered along trying not to make too much noise, didnt catch up with any tasty beasties but had a plurry good walk in a new area and marked a HUGE stag wallow on my GPS for later on Very Happy the area around it looked like a sheep yard. I left home at 13:30 and got home 17:30 just in time for roast pork (with apple sauce of course) roast spuds pumpkin and peas. aaah life is good Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy .

Elvis...ya mongrel...I am bustin' a gut to get out and you have to post a magnificent outing like that mate. Sad

Only a 24 km drive and you are right in the thick of it...you are so lucky mate. I reckon I would be back out there again at "o'dark hundred" tomorrow morning mate watching that wallow like a hawk. There is a feed in there for ya mate...just waitin' for you to pick it up. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

And to top it all of...you are having my all time favourite roast for tea!!!!! You are spoiled mate...spoiled rotten. Laughing

I gotta try and save some oscar scholars and get over your way for a hunt.

Cheers, Vince

A trick my father and grandfather used to keeps animals from eating the vegetables out of the garden was to mix one slightly beaten egg with 1/2 quart of water and spray onto anything that the deer eat. You have to re-apply this about every 4-5 days or after a rain.

Hey!! I like to smell my roses up close and personal. That mixture would damn near make that impossible. Thanks, but no thanks.

Bushy!!! you could get a paint ball gun and shoot em. Keep up with the shooting skills, have a hell of a laugh and still preserve the deer for a season. Wonder if tha's against the law.....

Unlike the Indians, these guys attack at night after midnight. Past my bed time.

Forrest Rats! Mad

Ate all my pop's 12' tall cypress trees from the ground 'till as far as they could reach rearing up- ended up looking like green Q-tips. Then they waxed the garden...BTW- them deer-proof shrubs are a load. Save yer money on them.

Pop's finally had enough...pulled the screens in the living room windows, sat up with the 280 and whaboom! One down, rest scattered. Quick trip to the co-op for a donate, get a few raised eye brows but the old guy just told 'em it was a mercy shot after it got hit by someone else on the hiway.

Explaining the smell to mom of Hodgdon in the living room was another matter. Laughing

well today I had had enough of sitting around getting fatter so decided to take the old smoke pole for a wander. My son can along for a walk and I looked hard at the dog and decided he should stay home.well I regreted that later....
we had a pleasant enough drive up to the spot all of about 50kms laced up the racing bullers and away we headed, with nearly 100mm of rain rallen in the last week the ground was soaked which helped to keep the noise down a little. the plurry wasps are back in force with nearly every tree having 4-5 on it right where your hand will grab to stop you falling. we headed way up a ridge in the bush the regrowth was thick enough to stop us breaking into a gallop if the steepness wasnt enough to deal with. after climbing for an hour we sat and had a bite to eat enjoying the peace n quiet. about 150 yrds after moving off I looked across and spotted a set of legs, then the other 2 four legs and and and yes a deers body not big and very scruffy looking it must be a fawn. up and boom!!! thump thump thump off goes my venison diner, we wait a while then move forward to where the deer was standing I leave my lad there to mark the spot and start searching. an hour later I give up in disgust!!! cant find blood cant find fur in fact in the plurry niggerhaed ferns I cant find sweet f#%Kall!!! we move off in the direction we think the deer went and still find nothing so back around we go and head straight down hill till we find some healthy out going marks no blood... ya missed ya flamin dork I say to myself...not very happy but pleased we have given the search our best we carry on, no more than 700 yrds around the hill I spy a very large red spiker as he turns and bolts down hill, no chance of a shot and just as well I probly would have missed that one as well. we continue stalking around for the rest of the arvo seeing heaps of pig sign and checking out a coup;e of large wallows, the stags havent been near them yet maybe in a few weeks time things may be different but come to think of it we saw no rubbing from antlers either, the stags on farms are starting to get stroppy and alot have hard antlers so the wild ones shouldnt be far away. never mind a good day out with the son and my waistline has hopefully benifited too.

As you say mate...a great day with the young tacka. Better luck next time mate.
