This was sent to me...
THEY GROW EM BIG IN MICHIGAN!!!
This snake was found at the old Turkey Creek Coal plant located just south of St. Charles on highwat M-52 north of Chesaning, Michigan..

It don't look like a Michigan rattler to me, but it is an eastern rattler. I've seen 6 footers in Florida, but this snake is 9'1" and 97 lbs.

That's an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. If it was found in Michigan, it is way, way, way out of it's range. ????? I don't think it could survive the winters up there. Just my humble opinion.

Oh, you'd hate Australia then.

Aussie Snakes

I don't really take any notice of them when I am out in the bush hunting. Pretty much all of them will get out of your way, or ignore you, unless you are stupid enough to try and touch them. Then the buggers will chomp ya. wtf OUCH Shocked Crying or Very sad

Cheers, Vince

Vince, I've found that any critter that will allow you to touch them, usually has a very compelling reason to let you show your stupidity. That includes animals on land as well as in the ocean. I'm a diver and I've learned, sometimes the hard way (painful), that they can either sting, bite, invenomate, or in some way or another make you wish you had not done that. I've seen many rookies try and touch, pick up, or just get too close to something and pay a painful price.

97 lbs sounds a bit much, that snake is not from Mich. if it was actually found where they said it was either from a zoo or hiched a ride from the south. This is the only rattle snake native to Mich. The Massasauga rattle snake..

Almost looks like a Western Diamondback. I've seen them up to 6 foot and they have that tawny brown color with that diamond pattern...

On snoops.com it said it was from Texas...Who knows,

Deep Fried Rattle Snake
1 medium sized rattle snake ( 3-4 lb.) cut into stakes
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup corn meal
1/4 cup cracker crumbs
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper
Mix dry ingredients, whisk milk into beaten egg and use to dip snake steaks. Then coat them with dry ingredients. Fry uncovered in 400 degree oil until brown.

What a Big dummy killing that snake.... That was a lot of money down the drain. Folks around here pay large bucks for eastern diamondbacks over 7 ft long and will come get them, money in hand. The pictured snake, bigger, is an eastern diamondback, not the smaller western. The eastern is the largest poisonous snake in NA and is golden brown in appearance compared to grey-brown western. Does not make a difference where it was killed, it is still an eastern diamondback.

No doubt about it, that is a respectable sized snake, but I have seen the photo several times on the 'net. Confused

Somebody took the photo with a wide angle lens, Shocked which changed the prespective to make the snake look larger in relation to the man holding it, who is extending the snake toward the camera. We have all seen pixes of fish done that way. Very Happy

One giveaway....the huge depth of field. The snake, and man are sharp, and so are the buildings 'way back there...just beginning to show a little softness.

A 90 lb. snake would severely bend or break the Pillstrom tongs the guy is using. They are good, but not that strong! And! How many of us could hold a 100 lb. sack of feed on a 4 foot (maximun length) broom stick in that position without showing just a bit of strain on the arms and hands ?

I'd say that picture is "enhanced", and about the same as the "alligator" photo supposedly taken in New Orleans after Katrina. It was a croc, and taken in Mozambique, or Botswana, or someplace where they grow really big!

That's what I was thinking but I didn't want to say........ Smile
