I've been looking for a crossdraw holster for my Taurus 454 Raging Bull with a 5 inch barrel.
I purchased a holster from Simply Rugged Holsters, which is a nice holster, but the gun rides too high in the crossdraw mode and the butt pulls away for the body.
I'm looking for a crossdraw holster where the belt is at or above the cylinder area , so that the weight of the gun doesn't pull the gun away from the body and rides close.
Do any of you have any one who makes one?

The search for the right holster is a frustrating ordeal. I fave a BFR with a 10 inch barrel so considering length and weight I had to go to a bandolier holster. Magnum Research's web site has the bandiliers and a hip holster in different barrel and cylinder lengths, they are expensive through then. I just googled the model I wanted and found then for about $30.00 less. I will look back through my emails for some other custom makers I checked out. There are some listed in my thread "Bandolier Holster".

I got a cross draw holster for my Ruger Redhawk from Kramer Handgun Leather that works quite well. I don't know if they make one for the gun you have. Part of your problem may be your belt. You must have a strong rigid belt to hold a heavy revolver.

I've heard good things about Milt Sparks holsters and they make cross draw holsters for even such unlikely candidates as the S&W 460V revolver. I have a couple of their holsters coming; since I haven't tried them yet I can't tell you much more about them except be prepared to wait 2 or 3 months to get one.

I don't like the stupid retention strap most manufacturers put on their holsters. It slows down the draw and isn't needed. The above mentioned holsters can be ordered without one.

Take a look here. I met Andrews at a couple of gun shows here in FL. Nice guy and he makes a fine product. I settled on his "Crossdraw" holster to carry my M-66 four inch when hunting with a rifle. I have been 100% satisfied with the holster and wearing it. It wears nice when sitting and keeps the gun away from my right hand when carrying the rifle in the woods.
Best,
Ed

Thanks for the response. I'll check them out. I got the 454 because I've had a couple of bear come in while calling coyote in the brush. I want the crossdraw for easy access while sitting. If I can get the holster I may try calling for bear during next years season.

I have a Galco DAO for my Ruger Redhawk with a 5 1/2" barrel. The holster can be worn either strongside or crossdraw. First rate leather in my opinion. Not sure if they make one for your model but would be worth looking into.
