A lot of mushers, me included, used to put a wooden match stick up all of the dogs rear ends before running them. It would give them the urge to poo, so they wouldn't stop on the trail to do it.
The biggest nightmare that a musher could have, is a dog stopping to poo on the trail.
The whole team would get tangled up in the tow ropes, and in order to keep from having broken legs, etc., you had to start cutting rope.
This never happened to me, but I have heard horror stories from some good men, about this.
A sled dog isn't known for it's brains, so all heck would break loose.
