Check this out... looks like a preview of something neat to come. Dunno how the 26 works into it, but I'm interested to see what it ends up being.

26 Nosler due to it being 26 Caliber (.264/6.5mm). It's based on the 404 Jeffry case, I believe. A very overbore cartridge that pushes past the .264 Winchester Magnum with the added benefit of using the high B.C. 6.5mm bullets.
It's basically what the 6.5mm Weatherby Magnum would have been (without the belt) if Weatherby had ever bother to produce one.

So why can't you use the high BC 6.5 mm bullets in the 264 Winchester?
Most likely Roy Weatherby would have used the shortened case like the 257, 270, and 7mm Weatherby Magnums use. The slower burning powders that we have today, that work well with an extremely over bore cartridge, were not available in Roy's time.

good points there Loke...welcome aboard its always good to have a logically thinking person to discuss things with.
as to why...well you probably can but Nosler wont get a cut per rifle sold as they MAY do with the new round.

You can, of course. Never said you couldn't. Simply attempting to explain some of the rationalizations of developing a new overbore 6.5mm round. High velocity coupled with high B.C. bullets makes a very nice long range package, if that's what you are looking for.
Personally, I think it will be quite the barrel burner and while it may be fun to use at long range I don't think I'd have much of a use for one. But to each their own...

Seeing my response to Dallan, I can see why you may have thought I was saying the 26Nosler had the added benefit over the .264 Win Mag of using the high B.C. 6.5mm bullets. I didn't word it very well. I simply meant it pushes the velocity past the .264 Win Mag, and it has high B.C. bullets (as do all 6.5mms). A combination which makes it a potent long range round.
Sorry for the confusion.

Welcome to the site Loke, stick around there are some great gun builders and reloaders here.
Loke is a local guy from my home town, very knowledgeable in reloading and works in my favorite gun store. Very glad to see him make a visit here.
Back to the OP, I wasn't sure what the "26 nosler" was, I just saw the link off noslers website. Glad people here knew more about it.

I just followed the link and it gave us a nice little sales pitch with all of the specs. Now I get to field a bunch questions from a bunch of people wanting to know why we don't have guns and ammo in stock yet.

From what I'm lead to believe, we don't have beer here, at least nothing that would be considered beer down under.
