1_and_2_year_old_fallow_walking_through_the_fence.jpg
What the local farmer doesn't see...-237 viewsHere is a shot of Fallow deer walking through the farmers fence. He blames walkers and vandals for the damage. There is about 80 in the herd and the bucks are all youngsters. Very odd that he won't allow anyone to shoot deer on his land "Nature will sort them out". That's nature as in road kill, poachers, famine, disease etc...

Commonly thought that deer jump over everything when in fact they like to keep all 4 hoofs on the floor.

Fallow deer walking home-300 viewsTook this the other night. A herd of about 80 Fallow deer going home to the woods. Note the young buck on the left of centre. No old guys at the moment - I think that someone has taken them out.

My long range rifle-268 viewsMy Steyr CISM in .308. Takes out anything that I point it at. Usually with Speer softpoints it brings in less than 1MOA shooting. Scope is a Nightforce 5-22x56. I've now got it screw cut for a silencer.

Only thing is that it's a bit heavy for carrying around - better for range work and when your sat in a high seat.

218 viewsIf you are wondering what type of dog to get, then get a Labrador. This one is called Rio and she does everything. Completely fearless, picks up, points, swims, follows me 'round like a fresh fart.
Only thing she won't do is fight other dogs - which is a good thing.
Killed all my chickens once, the little sod. Might need a bit of a clean before I let her back in the car though...

In his second year-194 viewsTook him last night with my 6.5x55 Swedish Tikka. By the look of his head and his teeth I'd say that he was in his second year.
Two things to say about him. 'Jeasus, he was heavy!' and 'What a big, fat deer!'
He was shot in his left side - in the engine room - the blood is from bleeding. According to my range finder, 117 yards and he was trying to get his leg over at the time. The other bucks were dozing and you should have seen them all run when the shot was fired. About 100 of them!
We're just coming into spring - it's late this year - so there is going to be a population explosion - I reckon about 40 fawns will join the herd.

Roe Pricket-267 viewsTaken in Hampshire, UK. Rifle is a Remington 700 .243 in a Choate stock. Brilliant set up but it had to go as everyone laughed at it when I went shooting...

In the UK, we usually wear camo or greens when out shooting. This pricket was called in by a shooting pal - thanks Mark - and dropped like a sack of spuds at about 120 yards. Typically, deer are taken with shots into the 'engine room' and at very short range - less than 50 yards. The newer thinking is to take longer shots and through the head - most rifle's are capable of it but most shooters are not! This one is about 1 rib back from where it should be but was still an instant clean kill.
