So I was playing with the box of ammunition, shaking a round and realized it's not making any noise in 30-30.
Has anyone pulled one apart and verified that they are using a compressed load for this round? Or does their reloading book say it's a compressed round for their bullet and primer?

the hornady site/load data site
has the data for those loads listed
they group higher than other loads so seem to be hotter.

I believe the powder is the LeverEvolution powder sold by Hodgdon. From their site.
"Hodgdon® Powder Company and Hornady® Manufacturing have teamed together to answer the frequently asked reloading question; "Can I buy the powder used in Hornady LEVERevolution factory ammunition?" Yes, this is the same spherical propellant used in Hornady's innovative and award winning high performance factory ammunition."
Loading data is on the Hodgdon site.

Some observations:
1. Why would it matter if commercial ammo used a compressed load?
2. Depending on the recoil characterists of the gun, bullets hitting higher can mean higher or lower velocity. In handguns, it pretty much always means lower velocity.
3. I just love the oft used term "award winning." What I would like to know is who gave the award and what was it for? It seems anyone and everything can be award winning. Even I am award winning.
4. I have tried Leverevolution powder and at least in the cartridges I've tried it in, it didn't work as well as some other powders.

Actually the Leverevolution powder is not what hornady's original recipe called for. Originally it was loaded with H4895. Load these for my model 94 and I got the recipe straight from hornady. Leverevolution powder wasn't even available for use until sometime after that. I just wonder if they took the H4895 and put leverevolution on the label to market it for lever action shooters lol.

The powders look different so I don't think they did that.

It doesn't, just the first time I shook a round of ammunition and the powder wasn't making any noise leading me to think it's a compressed loading.
Curiosity and all.

Yeah, the biggest problem is that the powders are so specific they are only good in a limited number of cartridges. Both Superformance and Leverevolution are niche powders with little versatility. I also wonder why the pressures are higher with them than the other powders. I wounder what would happen if you pushed the pressures up with the other powders if there would be any advantage.
I've always like Hodgdon powders but these two seem like more hype than substance.
