Well I got a 2.5x Weaver for it .. My eyes prefer a scope , but I prefer the open sights .. The scope will probably stay off more than on ...

Nice rifle, I hope it doesn't take you long to get your favorite calibers again. Good luck.

GroovyJack
One rifle battery? Maybe. Certainly you could not be accused of being undergunned in any situation.
Now, I don't know if they have prairie dogs in Alabama. If not, come west young man and join my son and I for our annual Big Bore Prairie Dog shoot. Calibers must be 40 cal, CF, or bigger. As you can imagine, we don't expend a lot of ammo, but, it is an amazing time and allows us to use the Caldwell Lead Sled w/100lbs of shot on the platform. My son shoots my former 458 Lott, which he immediately appropriated as his own. That leaves me with a mere 416 Rigby, but, the thought of a 500 Nitro is enticing. 50 BMG, why not?
We are not sure if we are really killing the little creatures or simply burying them. They simply disappear.

Now THAT sounds FUN
Do I need solids or softs ??
HHMM solids = less pelt damage
But then softs , well he prolly wont be attacking if only wounded
So when is this ?? Or is it an ongoing event ??

Alright GroovyJack! That's the spirit!!
It is an annual event that now has extended to five stalwart big bore morons like me. We hold it on the first weekend of July, typically on the Navajo reservation, a place that is overrun with prairie dogs in some areas. The Navajos that come to watch absolutely love it!
This year we had the 458 Lott, 416 Riby, two 45-70s, and one brave soul with a 460 Weatherby Magnum. Still no BMG, but, that may change for next year.
Wanna come?

There are those that understand why one should own a 458 Lott and those that don't.
Glad for you, to have a 458 L back in the fold. It is at least a start if you decide to buy a couple more guns as time passes.

Don't get me wrong, Ed, I can certainly appreciate the rifle. I think it's awesome. I was just having a little fun with the friend who's an elephant hunter from Kansas, just funzies. I was imagining herds of wooly mammoths stampeding across Kansas cornfields or something...crushing everything in their path etc until we all get out there with the big guns and cull the herd a bit.
Now I'm thinking...wooly mammoth steak..mmmm...

Dinosaur DNA has been recovered and with our cloning techniques improving, it is not beyond possible to bring back a whole new species that could provide Big Bore hunters with greater challenges than, say, mere elephants or prairie dogs. I believe the cost of tags would be expensive, however, unless a mass effort were undertaken to place quantities in relatively undesireable and unihabitable areas such as all of west Texas or the entire state of Maryland.

My 458 Lott keeps the rogue elephants off the beaches here bouts..... It sure works well, not a tusker running amuck yet.
Of course it makes one hell of a truck gun.....but ya gotta use solids on a Chevy...
