Every gun shop that I visit is selling guns and ammo with a passion. The used gun racks are nearly empty. The gun shop employees say they have been so busy that can hardly believe it. On the plus side, there seems to be plenty of ammo and reloading components. The inventory of firearms is going down. I suspect before long we will see some backorders and waiting lists. I have no idea where folks are getting the money to do all this buying in a down economy. Are you good folks seeing the same things in your area? Take care...

yup - dealers cannot keep anything on the rack new or used. Starting to see some spot shortages of components too...

Over here the sale of ar platforms is very good, shelves are stocked good and so far have not seen any shortages of primers, powder etc.

About the only shop in my area I bother to visit seems to be doing a lot of business. The owner tells me that he's seeing an awful lot of trading-up and older firearms being replaced with newer models. Good news for me...he knows to let me know if anything I might be interested in working with shows up. He doesn't stock much in the way of components, so I couldn't say if the stock is down or not. I order anything I want along those lines on the internet or, if it's something I can't justify the haz-mat charges for a small order, have him include my wants in his next orders.

I agree with Joe. The shops that I visit are going gang busters. I have seen a lot of women buying guns; mostly handguns and a few shotguns. This will probably continue until we see what the future holds for us. All the best...

I have also seen a number of older women and young couples buying guns at the gunshows. These are people you have never seen at shows in the past.
Also, there is a gun shop located very near a very liberal, old hippie town nearby and he usually has a lot of overpriced stuff. I have noticed his stock is flying out the door and his cases are about bare but always has new stuff for a short while.

panic buying sure is great for business.
here in the land of the long white cloud a person would never have brought water to drink from a shop before 1999 we just got a drink from the tap or filled up a plastic bottle from the tap. along came the Y2K scaremongering and bottled water started flying off the shelves along with tinned food batteries and candles. now skip ahead to 2012 and every corner dairy, service station and supermarket has at leased 3 different types of bottled water for sale. it cracks me up to see work mates buy a new 1.5 litre bottle of water each day at about $2 a go. now tight wads like me just buy a bottle of poweraid or similar and keep refilling the bottle from the tap for 6 months or untill I loose it and buy another.

I'm not as tight, I buy army "kidney" canteens and then fill them up out of the tap.
The last longer, plus they fit into my hunting pack and sit really nice on the hip.
As for the gun sales, when the economy does down, people prepare for war!!!
Can't wait for that to happen in Australia. People will go out everywhere buying baseball bats and kitchen knives (Hey, just about anything deemed a "weapon" is illegal now).

Here in my neck of the woods, Newfoundland, we have virtually no gun crime, the economy is booming and unemployment is low if you discount the seasonal workers. Given this, it is surprising that restricted firearms safety courses (mandatory to get a permit to acquire a handgun) are completely booked several months ahead. Purchases of handguns and "tactical" look shotguns and rifles have increased significantly. There appears to be a collective hysteria at work tied to gloom and doom predictions about economic collapse, end-of-the-world scenarios and violent upheavals. The media, including the internet, is feeding it with speculation on race wars, terrorist threats and the breakdown of law and order. I just hope this is not all going to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Well, we have a govt. we don't trust. We have professional rabble-rousers in FL trying to create as much trouble between the races as they can (Zimmerman-Martin case). We have a poor economy. We have a date for the "end of the world". I sure wish I'd invested in firearm and ammo companies...
The only things that worry me are the possibility of the trouble makers triggering race riots and the "end of worlders" doing crazy things as Dec. 21st approaches.

Trayvon Martin Case: George Zimmerman's Attorneys Quit, Say Client 'Disappeared'
Seems there might be some dissension "in the ranks" Punkin.
Of course the "end of worlders" will go crazy mate...what else do you expect from a bunch of crazies.

Vince, the Zimmerman-Martin thing is a nightmare. The media has really mucked it up. For example, they use photos of Martin from years ago, when he was 12-14 while they use a photo of Zimmerman where he looks like a bum. The media has edited the 911 call to make Z sound like a racist. I've seen so much misinformation that I'm sick of the whole thing. You would think that people putting their names on these stories would have enough personal pride to try to get it right but obviously that is not the case. The plain and simple fact is that the public doesn't really know what happened yet but the professional trouble makers (Jackson, Sharpton, Black Panthers, etc.) are stirring the pot as hard as they can. Did you see that the Black Panthers put out a reward on Zimmerman? And our "Dept. of Justice" hasn't done a damn thing about it!
Whooo! Sorry for the rant! Guess I'll go get a cup of coffee and calm down some...
