Well, Vince, with my AR it would be no question. With my long-slide Glock, probably. In case you haven't read the article, this guy rendered aid to the pin-downed police officer from over 150 yards with (I suspect) a .357 Mag - Wow! Shot the attacker 4 times!

I did read the article in its entirety Slim, and yes I too believe that the distance at which he shot the attacker was definitely excessive for a .357 Mag revolver...and probably bordering on irresponsible on the part of the Good Samaritan. However, if his aim was, at worst, to attract the shooters attention and allow the LEO to reposition himself, then he did good.
A .357 Mag is capable of hitting, and neutralising, a target at 150 yards...with the right load and in the right hands. I remember when shooting IMHSA silhouette, a favoured load of revolver shooters was a .38 Special case loaded with a 180 gr cast RN bullet and it was both accurate and hard hitting at 200 yards. I tried my S&W 586 .357 Mag, with HOT loads, over 300 metres and was able to hit a man sized target after a few ranging shots...although the trajectory resembled a rainbow somewhat.
Cheers, Vince

it all depends on how much you shoot and know and understand the trajectory of the load that you are using.

Should I understand here that when you cannot hit it with an AR, you better try the old revolver again?
And thumbs up for the decission that civillion took and the way he could handle his nerves while shooting a target that shoots back. I think he was retired now but I sure like to know what kind of a job he did while he was still active (not meaning he's not active anymore!)

The .357 magnum is very under rated by most people. I can hit and knock down steel pigs at 100 yards with a Colt SAA using the same sightings as I would at 25 yards.
140 grain Remington SJHP. Over 18.5 grains of W-296.

This seems to be a misprint. On another board I read someone looked at Google maps for the area this occurred and it is about 150 FEET, not 150 yards.

I could give a hoot if it was 150 inches or 150 yards!! This guy did a very noble and good thing in preventing another possible death by some crazed idiot.

I'm with you on this Omni...I thought he did a great service for his community. Not to mention the police officer.
