.. Feeling lazy so I'm letting the butcher do this one as well Very Happy

... Saw 3 2 small one's earlier and about 8:15 she cam strolling buy I used the 245 grain powerbelt aero tip this time I hit her right behind the shoulder but a little low Confused

but it still did alot of internal damage she only ran 60 yds so I think the powerbelt did ok Very Happy

.. It feels good to start fillin the freezer early.

They are "in-line" ignition so you place the primer in the breach but load the powder and bullet from the muzzle.

Man I am jealous of states that allow multiple deer per year to be harvested.

We only get a single deer here, and you have to draw the tag to do it. Odds to draw some areas are pitiful. Atm I'm averaging a deer tag every 3 of 4 years. My Brother in law gets 1 tag every 2.5 years 'ish (his area is more popular hence worse draw odds).

I need to travel east I think one of these years and try some whitetail hunting. Mule Deer hunting in the western US is coming to a rapid demise as herd populations continue to crash.

I get the impression that it seems easier for some to shoot deer with a smokepool than others to shoot a rabbit or birds with modern equipment... Smile

And I'm planning for years now to take the Hawken out on a roedeerhunt, I even put Kalashnikov's optics on top to help my eye-sight a little and till know, when the moment is there, I just take a .222, a 30/30 or when I expect problems then the odd 7 mm Mauser may join me.
I'm even now considering to reload a 45-70 with BP, just to be able to unload the rifle when I couldn't shoot... Lucky there is a lot of fun in planning and preparing too Smile

It's even here not clear that you're legally allowed to take a blackpowder rifle on a hunt. In the law you get lots of silly things about diameter and energy, but in practise they all look at the sales-info on the box of a certain round to determine it's energy or its suitability.
Blackpowder and lead pills don't come in such a box... even reloads are in the mistery fields here...
You have to love Belgium, where nobody can say it's right or wrong and you have to wait till somebody, who doesn't know anything about it, throws a coin up and decides...

That must make life hell for hunters in Belgium Aloys. How "reasonable" are the authorities mate? Do they take a commonsense approach or is it a case of "it looks too big and powerful so it must be illegal"?

the stupid thing is that there is no "too big".
They'd love to make all sportshooters using only the .22 LR, but on the other hand Flemish hunters are not allowed to use the .22 LR...
so I'm not allowed to shoot a rabbit with a .22 LR here in the Flemish part of Belgium, but I'm legally allowed to use a .375 H&H or even the .338 LM without any problem.
And at the end everything is so difficult that nobody knows the law anymore, so at first it's just about the knowledge of the controling agent and his abbility to discuss and/or to learn.

And for your info: for hunting small game with a shotgun only cal. 24, 20, 16 and 12 are allowed and lead shot is forbiden. Heve you ever seen a cal 24 round that's not lead shot?

And because nobody is using blackpowder for hunting (except me a few year ago with reloaded cal 12 Smile

) nobody will know any ruling about it, not even the autorities. So it's doing your thing, be ready to discuss and pay your lawyer when things go wrong Smile

Thats one thing about MD the deer harvest limits are great Very Happy

I also like the one time Vehicle inspection but the hunting laws keep me here. I grew up in chester Co Pa and at the time there was a specific amount of extra tags for each Co. Some times you got them and some times you didn't. I can legally take 33 deer in the county I live in without a extra tag Very Happy

33?!? Wow! In NC we can take 6 deer total per year. In my area 2 of the 6 can be bucks.

You make me ill with all that game to go after....I can't even find one to look over around here. I've been out 2wks now and not seen a deer. The rain has begun and maybe things will improve, but so far nada.

Hey Shrpsh what do you do with the hides? I'd think you'd have a nice compliment of tanned leather around the house.

I hope hunting improves for ya Suz . I don't do much with the hides anymore. I use to tan them myself in a salt /alum solution they didn't come out to bad "fleshing them is a pain in the butt". I have 3 or 4 hanging around.
