been reading alot about different 223 lately.
I am in the process of buying one myself real soon.

the chioce between a remington or a savage .

I have decided to go with the savage 10FP.

I choose to go with this after reading several post on peoples actual specs from other sites and this site.

Your 1 in 9 inch twist will stabilize the heavier bullets but you might (small chance in my book) have problems with the light weight bullets. The heavy barrel can be better for accuracy but that is not cast in stone and there are different barrel weights for the Remington too - some cost more while others do not. The free floated barrel is a good thing (I usually check after my first firing at the range (while the gun is still warm) which I take care of myself. The built in bipod is nice if you shoot in country where you can use it - in the mountains and alpine valleys that I hunt in it would be useless. The added weight of the savage is a good thing for me - Both my remingtons have been weighted to a good balance point for me and the both weigh ten pounds with magazine empty. Some will complain about carrying that weight but it has never been a problem for me and the rifle holds steady for me. The Remington safety is ok but I replaced the trigger and safety on both of mine with a Timney system. Some people complain about the Savage trigger - if you want better get a timney or some other aftermarket trigger - get a HUNTING trigger unless you can feel the trigger through gloves - most of the target triggers are measured in ounces and the hunting triggers are measured in pounds. My triggers are adjusted to 4 pounds and I do real well with them.
Basically I think you made the better choice - though I prefer a stabilized WOOD stock over the synthetic but as long as you are ok with it it will be stable and last forever. The money you saved over the Remington will go toward a better scope I suppose so you will end up with a better sight than you might have been able to afford if you had bought the more expensive Remington.

the remington I was looking at is about $100.00 dollers cheaper.

Remington 700 SPS .223 rem. Synthetic stock with matte barrel & action, NIB, $395.00. With Alpen Kodiak 3.5-10x44 scope, $540.00.

the savage is $650.00 with the same csope set up.

for some reson this guy that has this for sale has the remington cheaper than the savage ? even with the remington being cheaper , I am still looking at the savage.

You will still be beter off with the Savage (IMO) as with just a bolt head change and a new barrel you have another rifle for under$300.

I have a Bushmaster Varminter 223, It shoots 40gr Hornady V-max bullets into 1/2" @ 100yds consistantly with a 1-9 twist barrel, I think its just a matter of playing with the load til you get the sweet spot right.

I would also seriously consider the Savages, especially a new one with the accu-trigger. We use them alot out here for prairie dog shooting. Their out of the box accuracy has proved to be as advertised, and they shoot great with manufactured ammo. With handloads they can shoot excellent.

I know Savage makes good barrles, I took a Savage barrel and installed a AR-15 barrel extension and put it on a AR-15 flat top reciever, shoots great!

Adding my 2 cents...I have a Savage & I really like the accutrigger system. I decided on a .243 since I have a .223 already. With the .243 I have more flexibility & trust me, It'll take any varmint through deer size game. If your a true marksman, you can stretch it out to include elk, moose, & black bear. Savage has a good reputation for accuracy out of the box and are affordable.
