Ted Nugent’s Open Letter to Joe Biden

"Joe,

Congratulations on your appointment to lead a presidential commission to end gun-related violence.
As a National Rifle Association board member, husband, father, grandfather, law enforcement officer and genuinely concerned American, I too want nothing more than to see evil, senseless massacres stopped. I concur with the president and caring people everywhere: It’s time to end these slaughters . . .
As you gather your team to study massacres and how to stop them, I offer to you my services and a lifetime of expertise on guns in all their implementations. While I strongly differ with President Obama on many issues, I agree with him that we must work with all we can possibly muster to end these tragedies.
As you begin to formulate your thoughts on how to proceed with your task, I hope your starting point is to provide the president with the facts regarding these slaughters and to offer him common-sense recommendations that are void of a political agenda and will actually make a meaningful difference. If the American people smell a political agenda here, that will only bog down our efforts.
In the spirit of goodwill and a deep desire to end gut-wrenching, incredibly sad and senseless rampages, I offer you the following recommendations:
I encourage you to persuade the president to lead this effort by providing a number of public service announcements. The announcements should include watching out for each other, encouraging parents to be more involved in their children’s lives regarding entertainment choices, and knowing various indicators we should watch for in people who are unstable.
Clearly, the focus on solving these mass murders must be on the mentally ill. In almost every instance of mass killing, there were ample red flags and warning alarms that either were avoided or were not acted upon by mental health professionals, family members, friends and acquaintances. While I deeply respect an individual’s privacy and civil liberties, the American people need basic awareness of what indicators to look for regarding potentially violent, psychotic people. Our collective safety begins with being collectively vigilant.
You will find in your assessment that all of the massacres have occurred in gun-free zones. What gun-free zones create is an environment where good people are unarmed and virtually defenseless against an unstable person intent on committing mass murder. Gun-free zones are modern killing fields. I implore you to recommend that Congress pass a law to ban gun-free zones immediately.
Just like your full-time, armed security detail, qualified citizens with authorized, legal concealed-carry permits should be able to carry weapons virtually everywhere to protect themselves, their loved ones and innocents.
I also implore you to strongly consider recommending that trained school officials have access to weapons to protect students. Just as airline pilots may have access to a weapon to prevent another Sept. 11 mass murder, school officials also should be trained to stop shooting sprees at our schools.
I don’t encourage you to recommend a ban on any weapon, magazine capacity or type of ammunition. That won’t accomplish anything other than prevent the 99.9 percent of responsible, law-abiding Americans from enjoying these modern weapons as we do now. We should never recommend or develop public policy that restricts the rights of the good guys based upon what evil people do or might do. If that were the case, alcohol still would be banned. As you may know, drunk drivers kill an estimated 12,000 Americans each year and hurt tens of thousands more.
I encourage you also to keep this misnamed “gun violence” in perspective. While all deaths are tragic, the vast majority of gun-related murders and violence are committed by gang members who do not use guns that look like — but do not perform like — military assault weapons. The majority of crimes that involve a firearm are committed with handguns. I concurred with you back in 2008 when you stated, “If [Mr. Obama] tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.” I trust you still maintain those sentiments.
Again, I offer you my services and a lifetime of expertise. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Ted Nugent"

Thanks Bigblue. Another well written and reasonable piece.

Have we all communicated with our Congressman yet?

How much do you want to bet that Uncle Joe doesn't get back to Ted!
I've contacted both Senators and my Congressman every single day since this all started. Here's a number for the U.S. Capitol switchboard if anyone would like to call: (202)224-3121

With all respect, in my opinion it's hard to convince politicians by talking. They are specialised in talking and they don't care as long as it stays talking instead of acting.
It might be a better idea just to ask them 1 question: "Are you going to protect our 2nd or do you prefer I use the 2nd to protect it my way against evil attacks ?"

Wow that is really a pretty good letter coming from Uncle Ted considering there is no use of profanity in his letter. Shocked

While I have my doubts Bidden will ever see or read the letter as his staff will probably dispose of it to the trash.

I agreeOV1...a letter that sounds very much like it is from the heart, but written from the head.

Unfortunately I also have to agree with your comment highlighted above. If it is found that Ted's letter, in it's entirety, is not passed to Biden, then staff heads must roll.

It is so annoying that little p1ss-ant staff minions have an agenda of their own and once in a position of perceived power, they activate their agendas. Either that or they become the target of unscrupulous "higher ups" from anywhere within the Govt who, through means fair or foul, intimidate and coerce said minions to do their bidding.

Well I hate to be negative-Nancy OminiV but that's the very reason I'm leaving it up to the NRA to do something. I live in a state full of liberals and I feel liberals have an agenda and won't be swayed even with the best of intentions and reason. I agree with you, they'll see the name Ted N. on the letter and will toss it in the can straight away. They know his idea and don't want to hear it again. Same with my local polititions, if I send a heartfelt note of disagreement to their agenda, it won't even be considered, period. With current admin. in place for two terms, they've got momentum on their side and population on their side. More people work for the government, it's the biggest employer in the US. Loyalty to the cause is overwhelming and Union-like scrappy Chicago justice has become the means to an end. If they don't get it their way, they'll bully they're way in with overwhelming violent rhetoric.

I'm submitting to the NRA to do the job they've been committed to, without panic and over reaction on my part. I don't need that in my life, they love to do it.

We've all seen through history what a maligned government can do to it's people, it's interesting no one sees a connection here with what our government is doing. My Daddy used to say that most people are honest, but not as intelligent as we are. I think it's swinging the other way now. The majority of the population has become sucked into careless, lazy, taken-for-granted freedom, as if the fight for freedom is over and we can just sit back and enjoy it. The fight for it is never over. If we see fighting over-seas on the TV, it's taken for granted there'll be a good outcome and our heroes will come marching home unscathed. It never happens, but we count on it. Lulled into complacency unless it's me or you doing the fighting, and why in the world would anyone want to fight in a war? Got better things to do.

I'd rather, for my own personal reasons, play it just like a religion. You don't have to preach and convince and alter people's lives to have an impact on them. You just have to be, what you believe in. Be an example of an ideal that other people want to emulate. They want to because it seems so honorable and awesome to them. Be honorable and awesome in the eyes of others.

An example of this, relating to guns, is the Vietnam war. First time a war was live televised. The press made a killing too, showing footage right from the battle lines. Day after day of live combat situations, blood and gore and things blowing up, people hurt and killed, heroic situations and you could actually feel what the troops were feeling because you could see it on their faces. I knew lots of guys that wished they were old enough to join and go over there and fight.

Can you honestly say that we have that feeling from the press coverage of today's fighting and suffering and heroic events? Is the press making our troops our fighting our heroic events something to behold, that we can't wait to see footage of? Are there high school boys who just can't wait to go over there, but they're too young and so they're preparing for battle by doing push-ups and set-ups to get fit?

It's just another routine day over there, 4 soldiers killed in a car bomb, 3 were Americans, one was a civilian.....blah..blah..blah...HUH? What's with that? We hear or see on the news, one guy. He came home and hugged his kid during the Rose Bowl Parade, or he surprised his kid in school, the day he came home, or he's in the hospital with 75% burns on his body, or the news just gives a tally of the day's wounded or dead.

Have you seen the coverage from the other side? The opposing views are horrendous. Sheer panic and fright, crying, bleeding, maimed, blown up. Interviews with Moms, Dads and children, bus drivers, cabbies anyone who will show panic and fright.

Who is more convincing that something heroic or vital is going on? Which side is more convincing that there is a need for fighting and it's killing us right now? Which side is convincing us that every one in the country is in danger and everyone needs to be involved, it's urgent?

Our news media is doing what the administrations' agenda dictates it to do. It's emulating what our admin. wants you to feel and do. It's down-playing the wars. It's down-playing our heroic efforts and our maimed and dead. It's sensationalizing our self-control of guns. It's ignoring our criminal system (and criminals in general). It's ignoring our lack of care for the mentally ill. It discredits, the opposing party and all arguments associated with wealth, taxes and guns.

Be what you want others to emulate. Seems to work for me, it works for them. Try it. I'm tired of fighting a loosing battle. I've fought many with not too good results. It's time to do what the enemy is doing to us. They're showing us the way to overcome them and overwhelm them with sense and reason and logic and knowledge. But we need to do it with honor and valor and integrity. Personally I think we're doing everything that needs to be done, but more of it. Lots of interviews with lots of coverage with the media showcasing the idiotic rantings and insane banter of the liberal agenda vs logical, outspoken reason. Put it on YouTube and blast away. Sooner or later (if we did't have a corrupt govt.) reason will prevail and they'll all look like idiots committing suicide.

To try to reason with the admin. is flogging a dead horse. Overwhelming mass is what we need and I think reason and logic is the way to prevail. When an agenda is set in stone, you can forget trying to move the stone. Problem is they're the majority. We have to change that ratio and the uninformed needs some education the way they are comfortable getting it, the TV. The media has an agenda, we need to overwhelm them with idiotic interviews, showing just how insane apparently educated people can be.

scuse me
I farted
Suz

Suz, I have to call you on part of that. When a politician, especially a "liberal", gets a letter from the NRA they blow it off because its "just the NRA again". However when letters from John Q. Public come in they might pay attention. As you said "Overwhelming mass is what we need..." so which would have more effect, a card from "just the NRA' or a hundred letters from John Q.? We need to let them know how the PEOPLE feel.

My two concerns are:

1 - Gun owners will be too passive, hoping that nothing will happen instead of making their stance known.

2 - The current administration has already shown that they don't particularly care what the people want. Anyone remmember "Obamacare", which something like 60-70% of the people opposed?

When Obama care got shoved down our throats, Obama had a majority in both houses. It ended up costing him the control of the House. I'm hoping they'll look at this the same way and if they get enough negative responses they'll back off so the next election doesn't cost him the majority in the Senate. Maybe contacting my reps is a bit like pushing that button to get the light to change, but I'll keep at it. All it costs me is a small amount of time.

Humor me just a bit Suz,,

I sent an e-mail just afew days ago to Greg Walden stating my position as a law abiding citizen in fear of having my second amendment rights impeded by way of such things as the misguided agenda that Diane Fienstein will be presenting in a few days in the hope of making this become law. I was very careful not to rant as I can do but to point out misguided facts that she would be presenting and how it would personally effect me but not those bent on raising havoc and creating mayhem and leave me in a position to be less apt to defend myself and my loved ones from violaters better armed than myself.

I actually got a reply supposedly direct from him as it was signed by him that in essence stated he was in favor of protecting our second ammendment rights and focusing more on identifying mental health issues and protecting the public.

If you could see your way to drop him a line I would be interested to see if his response to you was an exact duplicate of the one he sent to me, you know, like an e-mail form letter .

I love the fact thay you are one who has strong opinions when it comes to right and wrong as I can see it in the posts you put up for all of us to see ,,, YOU GO GIRL !!!

Inquiring minds want to know and all that ,,, Ya know ???

Pumpkin actually what I meant about the NRA is their political clout and the numbers behind them, not them just sending a card to a representative. I actually just joined the NRA right before Christmas. Didn't actually like them years ago because of some political move they made (don't remember what it was) so I quit. They have my vote and they have my support to do what they do best. And YES the current admin. has proven to me that they don't care a rats' azz what the people say, good reason to go around the mud hole and find a clearer path.

10Spot thank you for your very deserved admiration, I'll sweep off a stump for you and we can have a beer, but I'm not writing to Greg (who is a real stand-up guy and I believe the sole Republican representative in Oregon) because he has our back. The guys that don't are the ones that need a talking to and I'm sure if you sent them a little note, you might be somewhat unsurprised at their response.

I really don't think gun owners are going to be too passive Pumpkin, the gun sales are a good indicator that there is some concern. You might think that I'm being passive, and I am in a way. Passive/aggressive is how I look to put it. I'm not being singular by backing the NRA and they have more political means and monetary clout to sway an already failing (because of the media) view of guns and gun crimes than any single one of us do. They are the most successful of all lobbyists and they have the backing of over 4 million gun and second amendment lovers.

What the administration and gun fearing worms are counting on is the media to keep fighting their battles for them, and they are, as if on a mission of self governance for feel-good hippies. The sixties are long gone but the hippies kids have grown and left the commune for the city. They're taking over radio and television stations so they can sit on their bongos and preach goodness to all. I swear listening to the morning news broadcasts on national news stations makes me want to puke. Aren't you just drooling to find out what Matt and Katy are up to now? Like we care?

The dumbing of America is numbing too. I really don't care what those idiots ideas are, they don't mean a thing to me. They can't broadcast the news without their own personal opinion jabbed in there. They discuss the news between themselves to make it a nice homey chat for all to admire. Like watching your parents when you were a child discuss politics. Isn't it refreshing and nice? We'll have to warn our viewers that this next segment might be upsetting to some, and they show a car wreck with the bodies censored to the point of non-recognition. Yeow don't scare the kids with that Katy and Matt...it's freakin me out. On the lighter side, I think we've finally come up with some solutions to gun violence with the ban of assault weapons reinstated, whew! got that figured out. Hope Katy and Matt can solve other problems with such swiftness and leadership.

The media is doing this to us. They're winning political points with the great one. They're going out and doing a great job of it. They made and broke so many Republican candidates it was embarrassing. So where is Oprah now? Probably found a nicer heaven for herself after electing the big O. (just for the fun of it I looked it up) Winfrey currently lives on "The Promised Land", her 42-acre (170,000 m2) estate with ocean and mountain views in Montecito, California. Winfrey also owns a house in Lavallette, New Jersey; an apartment in Chicago, an estate on Fisher Island, Florida, a house in Douglasville, Georgia; a ski house in Telluride, Colorado; and property on Maui, Hawaii and Antigua. OOOoooo nice!! I wonder how much BO money....they'll never tell...it's between the two of them.

I'm getting ramped up....have been on-call during the 2wk Christmas break. I saved up 4 days of vacation time to use before the end of the year and had to work all four days because of emergencies. This week I've had to work the two days after NewYears and I'm hoping for Friday off. I put in 90 hours last week (because of vacation time and working) so this next paycheck will be a humdinger!! Yeah!! but I want some alone time....to my freakin self for once....anyways these are my very best rantings and ravings and I'm not going to be upset if anyone's annoyed because I'm annoyed too.

So there
Suz

Thanks Bigblue. Another well written and reasonable piece.

Have we all communicated with our Congressman yet?
