I fear for those in Illinois. Absolutely nothing good can come of this. If this is a test bed for these bans, imagine this at a national level?

If it passes at least I have a good market to sell off some guns into...

I have contacted my state legislators and they assure me they will vote against it.

I have the number of the bills sponsor and plan to call and tell how much I dissapprove too.

Vince,
I just watched the video you posted on Australian Gun Control and have a question. What firearms are you allowed at this point and do you have the right to defend your home and person. I believe the Feinstein bill also has a list of 900+ firearms that will be allowed and specifically named under her plan, however I haven't seen that list published.
Thanks,
Don

On the American side the bills in the Illinois congress have been tabled due to a lack of support. In a statement the congress said that it would be addressed at a later date.

I truly hope what you say is true, but I heard that it passed through committee and was heading to the floor for a vote on Friday.

Paul,
I did a little research and I'm very happy to say your information was correct. The vote was put off as they didn't have the needed votes to pass it. www.bnd.com/2013/01/03...n-gun.html

BB, it is probably easier to tell you what we aren't allowed.
No autos or semi auto long arms, no pump shotguns (pump or trombone rifles are ok), pistols are restricted to a maximum calibre of .38 bore diameter and a 5" (I think) barrel length.

Our firearms laws categorize firearms into Cat A, B, C, D, E, H, M and R according to their type, calibre or action. Some of the types not allowed to the general public can still be owned by certain categories of people with Police authorisation (some primary producers can have semi auto rifles or shotguns for business purposes ie, feral eradication) but this approval is extremely difficult to get. Some clay target shooters can get approval fir a semi auto shotgun with a Dr certificate, but it must be modified to take only two shells.

Regardless if anything though, you must prove justification for ownership in all cases...and self defence is NOT a valid reason, in fact if you were to say you wanted a firearm for self defence, that would be grounds to refuse ownership and most likely have your firearms licence revoked.

Vince,
After reading through the "Weapons Act 1990" I'd like to first offer my condolences! Years ago I had thought that if things ever got "too bad" in this country, Australia was my out. Now it appears Australia beat our country to that "too bad" mark. It's hard for me to even imagine that self defense would not be a logical reason to own a firearm. Self defense is the exact reason listed on my concealed carry permit. The only reason I have to offer at my gun shop for the purchase of a firearm is that I want it. Australia has indeed taken it to the extreme. Believe me I'm not trying to rub it in, just trying to understand it. As you well know, we may soon find ourselves with similar limits on our freedoms.
Thank you for your clarification.

Here's a new report that they'll try to sneak a vote in on Sunday.

LATE BREAKING ALERT – NEXT VOTE ON SEMI AUTO BAN WILL TAKE PLACE SUNDAY

YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

After getting nowhere in the Senate, the gun controllers have taken their campaign to destroy your rights to the Illinois House. Earlier today, Amendment #1 to SB2899 was introduced in the Illinois House of Representatives. Sponsored by rabidly anti-gun Rep. Eddie Acevedo, the amendment would do two things to you:

1. It would pick your pocket to pay for the confiscation and destruction of your own guns.

2. It would ban more than 50% of the rifles and more than 80% of handguns owned by Illinois citizens.

THIS BILL WILL BE VOTED ON BY THE HOUSE JUDICIARY 1 COMMITTEE ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON – YOU MUST ACT NOW!

To help save your guns, please contact the following Representatives and politely tell them that you are a law-abiding firearm owner and that you do not support SB2899 and that you expect them to vote the amendment down.

1. Rep. Elaine Nekritz,. (217) 558-1004 and (847) 257-0450

2. Rep. John Bradley, (217) 782-1051 and (61 997-9697

3. Rep. Jill Tracy, (217) 782-8096 and (217) 223-0833

4. Rep. Michael Connelly, (217) 782-8028 and (630) 579-4848

5. Rep. Dwight Kay, (217) 782-8018 and (61 307-9200

6. Rep. Lou Lang, (217) 782-1252 and (847) 673-1131

7. Rep. Sid Mathias, (217) 782-1664 and (847) 222-0061

8. Rep. André M. Thapedi, (217) 782-1702 and (773) 873-4444

9. Rep. Arthur Turner, (217) 782-8116 and (773) 277-4700

10. Rep. Ann Williams, (217) 782-2458 and (773) 880-9082

11. Rep. Michael Zalewski, (217) 782-5280 and (70 442-6500

REMEMBER – THE AMENDMENT TO SB2899 WILL BE VOTED ON IN COMMITTEE SUNDAY AFTERNOON – START CALLING THESE REPRESENTATIVES BEGINNING SATURDAY AND CONTINUE CALLING THRU SUNDAY
