An assassination attempt was made on opposition leader Ahmed Dogan's life today while he was making a speech in Sophia, Bulgaria. Check out the video!

The assailant is a small time crook & drug dealer.
Pity he was brought down rather than taken out.

The assassin carried that one pistol and two knives. With the pistol misfiring, I'm surprised he didn't use one of the knives. As important as a political assassination is, you think he would have carried a back up pistol or at least tested that one a little better. I'll bet that Ol' Ahmed needed to change his drawers.

If that is considered a assassination attempt. I guess coughing on someone will be one next!

It was most likely staged to gain him some sort of political support. Bulgarians are already mentioning that fact, and it was a "gas gun" used, either one meant for defensive purposes that fires tear gas only, or a airsoft gun as the movie/media industry has gone to them instead of their original gas guns as they are cheaper and replicate a more variety of firearms.

Either way, his life was not at risk. It was a big PR stunt that people bought. More then likely organized by Ahmed Dogan himself, seeing as it was a ethnic Turk who was the "shooter".

Ahmed Dogan was a Communist Secret Service agent before the fall of Communism in Bulgaria. So anything he says, and does, is typically questionable.

This already in Wikipedia: On January 19, 2013, there was a failed assassination attempt on Dogan at a party congress. An assailant pointed a gas pistol charged with blank cartridges at Dogan, which failed to fire. A gas pistol is a non-leathal self-defense gun, but when used at close range it can be lethal. However, in this case, the gun may cause injuries, but they would be non-lethal, experts say. The assailant was identified as Oktay Yenimehmedov, an ethnic Turk who has previously been arrested for drug possession, robberies and hooliganism.

He used caps, not blanks, Bulgarian Interior Ministry and the Institute of Psychology, both claim that he never intended to kill the guy, nor was it possible to kill him according to the officials and they wont even try him as attempted murder.

There is also references in articles that the "attacker" was actually a Youth Member of the same party. And that Dogan was planning on retiring at this conference, which is why most semi-official and public opinion in Bulgaria is that it was more likely staged.

It is to get around the gun bans in those countries. They also do not fire calibers that they make real ammunition for.

They already did the first day when it happened. By claiming the gun jammed which is why it was a "failed assassination attempt", which is why this thread exists.

Bulgarian news reported almost immediately, so did many European news agencies, that it was just a "gas gun".

Sensationalism is king in the media.
