February 2013 was the third highest month on record for background checks on Americans' purchasing firearms.

According to the FBI NICS database, there were 2,309,393 background checks completed in the month of February.

The only two months that saw a higher number of NICS checks were January 2013, with 2,495,440, and December of 2012, with 2,783,765.

The total number of background checks completed since November of 1998 (the month the FBI began tracking this information) is 165,279,535.

President Barack Obama, dubbed "The greatest gun salesman in history," has presided over 42 percent of these background checks, or a total of 68,898,629.

With the concealed carry permit I haven't had a NICS check in 7-8 years. And I've bought a gun (or two) during that time.

So, I have to assume that actual gun purchases during these times were probably higher than background checks indicate, given that many "concealed carry permit" holders do not require a NICS check. I think that the gun manufacturers should get together and present Obama with an AR-15 in recognition for his part in increasing gun sales! By the way, I saw that Ruger stock increased value by over 600% and S&W stock increased about 300%.

I think they ought to give him one of those other plastic carbines - the ones with thered paint on the muzzle!
(in the US toy guns have red muzzles so the cops don't shoot kids playing.)

Ive been thinking we should all paint the muzzles of our guns the same bright red/ orange the toys have. That would really screw with em ! Very Happy

I heard a stat that the number of guns is up but the number of households with a gun is down to about 37 %. Those who already have guns are gunning up, not bringing new into the fold.
