the hat was the 2nd clue to the scope. read a testfire on them the other day so had inkling thats what it would be.
an aimpoint.
as for calibre.... might be .270!!!!or 30/06??? or 9.3????
definately hits hard and is a long action..cases look that size to me.

You were right, Elvis. It's an Aimpoint.
www.aimpoint.com/us/pr...duct/H34L/
7mm Rem Mag is the caliber, but it sure doesn't look like it kicks like a 7mm.

Vince, I'm sure you could load the .30 RAR to subsonic velocities also. It would be interesting to see what a 220 grain bullet would do in the RAR. However, if you stick a 150 grain SST in the .30 RAR it will be supersonic out to about 1,000 yards (according to Hornady's ballistics calculator). Please remember that my original interest was in an AR-15 DEER platform.

The .30 RAR doesn't have a fast enough twist rate to stabilize a 220gr bullet subsonic. I think most subsonic barrels in .308 have a 1:7 twist. Otherwise the bullet will just tumble after it leaves the barrel.

Thanks Slim. Looks like a .308" with a 1 in 10" twist would stabilize a 1.4" long bullet (Greenhill formula). I don't know the length of a .30 cal 220 grain RN but some .312" 200 grain Grand Slams that I have measure 1.28".

1.02 is the length of the cast 220 grain slug that we can buy over here cheap as...under $20 for 50.

Vince, what is it's twist rate?
