I only figured the SA to be more accurate after reading the trigger pull was a fair bit liter than a DA. I won't be using this gun for anything but the range and I have always wanted a 44. ?I will have to check and see if the Hunter version comes in a 5 1/2" barrel as I was a little worried about the 7 1/2 being front heavy. Thanks for your input guys.

I only see the Hunter listed as 7.5" barrel. If you end up looking at the more "standard" versions, anything over 5.5" has the "Dragoon" frame which has an elongated grip (which might be nice) and a squared-off rear of the trigger guard (which many hate as they say it raps the middle finger of the holding hand pretty hard). I'm mixed on this since I have .44s with both grip frames and do occasionally get that finger smacked pretty hard with he Dragoon frame.

As to DA versus SA trigger pulls, let's make sure we are talking apples to apples. The DA can be cocked and fired by hand or by trigger pull. The SA can only be fired by cocking the hammer. I do not mean to give the impression that I think you are stupid, but I have run into this misconception many times. A well tuned and polished DA revolver can easily have a single-action trigger pull that is every bit as light and crisp as a good SA. In fact, most SA revolvers need a bit of work to have their best trigger pulls anyway. I have SA Rugers that have trigger pulls of 2.5 pounds and a Dan Wesson .44 that has a single-action pull of 2 pounds. It all depends on the tuning.

Bottom line...get what you like the best and then have it tuned to your taste. You'll be happier in the long run! Best of luck and keep us posted as to your choice.

D/A shot single action will usually have less take up than most stock S/A as most S/A now have a transfer bar. That's a fine point that's moot with practice. Shoot enough and you wont notice anything but the muzzle flash.

For range work the D/A gives you two guns in one, esp with sub-loads you can blang the clangers 1-2-3 in D/A.

Check out Taurus. They have a 44m in D/A with tube lengths that might interest you. They are robust and not that expensive.
Taurus makes some nice stuff w/ a LT wrty. I have TONS of rounds through my 605 snubby and its the tightest gun I own.

If you have the coin the Ruger Redhawk and Super Redhawk and fine choices too.

Fixed. Wink

I'll admit to being VERY partial to the double action, 6" barrelled Ruger GP100 in .38/357mag.
I can load mild .38spl plinking rounds for $0.11 which is cheaper than some of the .22LR on offer, or I can load .357 cases with Hornady XTP's & 2400 for a full house hunting/defensive load. Being stainless steel makes it a breeze to clean too.

The 44 magnum is a superbly accurate caliber and when properly set-up, is a joy to shoot...

Both the single and double action Ruger revolvers, are capable of shooting groups under 3" @ 100 yds. and on a very consistent basis....

Not any more Sad but my friends in the US can & one owns a couple he reserves solely for my use due to me being a squint-eyed southpaw. Very Happy
I shoot them as much as possible the two or three times a year I manage to get over the Pond.

Well, good for you! I wish you folks could turn back the laws in your country. It's a shame the way the government took the guns away from people who love the shooting sports so much. England has quite a long and proud history in fine arms and now the only ones who can have them in their homes are foreigners. That is sad.
