This is a large gun shop and I saw a good selection of primers and powder. Bullets were limited in both quantity and selection. There was a good supply of shotgun ammo (even 16 gauge) and centerfire handgun and rifle ammo. They have a three box limit on factory ammo purchases. The did not have any .22 l.r. or mag. ammo. Prices were up about ten to twenty percent from last year. They have a lot of things on order with no delivery dates from their distributors. There were a lot of empty shelves.

There was a large assortment of new firearms especially Model 1911 handguns from Springfield, Colt and Kimber at extremely high prices. There were quite a few new S&W models again at high prices. The staff said they are having quite a few backorders on all firearms. The used gun rack was a disaster with very few items and all were quite expensive. I guess that is the way things will be for some time to come. What are you folks seeing in your area? All the best...

I am waiting on Remington bullets in 6mm to come back into the stores, but I'm not holding my breath. I emailed the distributor who replied and said he had visited Remington and the problem is worldwide. Remington are using all of their components making factory rounds for the domestic market (fair enough too) and not putting component bullets into the market.

Looks like I am going to have to change my brand of bullets according to what is available. Mor load development...WOO HOO. Laughing

Interestingly enough I have just started reloading. I went and got all the stuff I needed in.223 and now have 200 rounds sitting waiting for Sunday when I'll go and have some fun. The gunsmith I buy off has quite a bit of reloading stock, I guess with the cutbacks in importing I should buy up projectiles in bulk.

Radar mate I dont think we have too much to worry about...find your sweet load first then buy 1000 projectiles if you so desire...it will take you a fair while to put then through your .223... its not like your blazing away with a 30 round clip from a semi at a tin can from the hip....LMAO....
If these Barnes turn out to be as good as Im hoping I may buy 2nd box to store in reloading bench but with the amount of rounds I fire per animal Im not going to run out any time soon.
3 shots .223 for stag
2 .270 stag
2 .270 hind
2 .270 hind
1 .223 pig
2 7.62x39 pig
2 7.62x39 deer

heck I can hardly eat it fast enough to run out of ammo...just as well its only 6 weeks till Duck shooting or the ammo companies would go broke...well bugga me I ve still got enough shotty ammo left over from last season and more than enough components (thanks again Vince) to keep son banging away too...he uses .12ga the same as your .223 Very Happy Very Happy

Lots of guns around here in stock, prices seem reasonable. Even pre-hysteria pricing. Walmart has AR's sitting in their cases. Very good deals on the internet with a little searching ($450 AR15's)

Alot of common hunting caliber ammo is in stock, 270, 30-06 etc etc. Lots of bulk packs of common pistol ammo: 9mm, 40S&W, .45 etc etc. Seeing tons of 5.56/.223, even bulk deals w/ 300 to 500 rounds. 22LR can be found if a guy is willing to get up early in the morning.

Primers are pretty common, bullets I use are in stock 50% of the time. Powder still seems in shorter supply but at times I see stores getting in a dozen cans of one type, so thats hit / miss if you are looking for a specific type.

Around here powder is still scarcer than hens teeth. But I do occasionally see a pound or two on the shelves. Last night when I popped in to Sportsmans Warehouse there were a few pounds of IMR 4759 and H50BMG (neither of which I use, but still). The primer situation is getting better. There were 3 different brands of small pistol primers, 2 different brands of small pistol magnum, 2 different brands of large pistol, 4 different brands of 209 shotshell primers and the full line of Remington primers. Still only about 20% of regular bullet stock. No .22LR or .22 Mag ammo.

It still sucks, but at least it sucks less.

Bushy,
Take your canoe - you will make better time and stay warmer or at least drier. The canoe will also hold water and snacks for the trip, it's going to be a while. Wink
