Went to Blakely Ga today to shoot long range rifles. Man what a great time. I had first round hits on the targets out to 900 yards. Took 3 rounds to hit 1100, and a few more to nail the 1200 yard target. Just for grins and giggles, took a SWAG at a abandoned car at 500 yards with a S&W 686 357 magnum, and I hit the thing!!!!! Talk about luck. Rifles used and range:
Rem 700 Sendero 270 Win, 135 sierra match @ 3100 fps
1st round hits up to 900 yards. Hits after getting dope at 1100 and 1200yards.
Browning X-bolt 30-06 165 sierra BTSP 2900fps
1st round hits out to 700 yards, run out of adjustment on scope, but used good old kentucky windage and elevation to score hits at 900.
S&W M&P15 OR in 5.56. Factory ammo.
Solid hits out to 650 then mirage was too bad to confirm hits or misses at anything longer. But I owned the 450 yard target with it.
Friend of mine had hits at 1200 yards with a bone stock 1944 M1 Garand with my handloads. Stock sights. 147 FMJ at 2700fps. I also hit 1200 with that rifle. It was awesome!!! Targets were steel with a 8"x8" head and a 20" wide torso and 40" total height. Most fun I've ever had with my clothes on.

DS, glad you have lots of fun. I'm trying to get some 135 SMK for my .270 but can't find them. Did you get them before Sierra changed their production strategy?

Great shooting DS, those ranges are awesome. I can't even imagine shooting out that far.

Best I ever got was 300 metres with my S&W 586 with my own reloads. Plenty of Kentucky windage and elevation. It was raining when I shot and you could see the path of the bullet a shirt way, and the splash on the fall if shot helped me get on target.

View of the shot tower from the 1100 yard target. Ok, Ok, the 1100 yard target was only 1089 yards with my laser range finder.

Gelan and Vince,
You just gotta come over and I'll organize a shoot at my mates private range.
from .22 to whatever, we can shoot from 25M out to 1400 yards from the mound or if you can get a bigger gun (BMG50) we can shoot out to 3km I've never done that range but Ive hit targets out at 1000M and yep its a bloody enjoyable achievement.
The offer is always there, but Id have to make sure we could get access to the range - its a working farm so access can be an issue during lambing etc. Im pretty sure with plenty of notice I can make it happen.

Radar,
I have shot in really flat area but they are out in the hunting lodge, not a real target range per se.
We shoot at drums and abandoned cars, I think it is different from shooting at a properly distanced and sized target

That sounds good Radar...just a matter of being able to organise it on this end...and save the money. Laughing

Furthest I've ever shot is 500 metres, and that was hard enough, although I have shot out to 300 metres with a .357 Magnum revolver.
