So a bunch of queue jumper refugees decided to travel to Australia illegally in a patch up boat.
They sink! 50 dead..
And now a goddam lawyer is getting their relatives to sue the Commonwealth for breaching duty of care..
For not maintaining rescue services for those that chose to STEAL into the country???

IMHO This kind of thing should be laughed out of the judiciary system.

I thought any rationally thinking person would know that once you risk breaking the law,
then you would take the risk not being able to be rescued in remote area..

WTF is going on?
What a waste of funds to even entertain them to be heard in a court.

When I was a little child, you know Bushy, back when dinosaurs still roamed freely and the stone wheels were not quite round. I lived in Thousand Oaks California, Ward Bond of the TV series Wagon Train was our Mayor and the biggest business in town was Animal World where they housed all the wild animals Hollywood used in its movies.

At the time I think there were about 500 or 600 others in the town (over 200,000 today).

I had a tree house I built from scrap lumber I scrounged for and nails I hammered straight. But, on to the point of this story. About twenty feet away from the great huge oak I had my tree house in was a shallow ravine that separated a couple rows of homes. One day I was up in the tree house and I heard a lot of yelling and swearing coming from the ravine directly below me so I peaked over the edge and saw about 12 men beat the Hol- Cr-P out of a guy. I was probably 7 at that time and had never witnessed any type of violence, (with the exception of the oft repeated ass whippings received from my dad).

Many years later I told my dad what I had seen and asked if he knew anything about it. All my dad would say was that the guy more than deserved the beating because of many things the men in the town were aware that he had done, he did not detail the specifics. I sometimes wonder if taking the lawyers, liberals, lying politicians, rapists, child molesters, and wife beaters back behind the barn and explaining to them rigorously how disappointed we are by their actions, and that remedial training would be forthcoming if they didn't change their ways might be a more effective way of solving the problem, well at least I know I would feel better.

Ward Bond what a crackup, he was mayor? I was stationed near there at Pt. Mugu, really nice coastal sort of farming area, too many thieves tho. Lester it's kind of like you're condoning mob rule (which happens to be the first line of your Thomas Jefferson quotes). I know you don't mean it that way, but the point of being passive, unassuming, politically correct and let someone else take care of things has truly gone too far. Even today at work we have an espresso machine, it builds up steam pressure and today decided to blow it's top while I was standing near it. I reached down and unplugged it. The front desk lady told me that it did that yesterday too. What did she do about it? nuthin. So I told her it was like a time bomb and if that pressure release valve failed it WOULD be a bomb. Then I found out several people in the office knew it was blowing off excess for a few days. Did they call in to get a repair? nope. Were they concerned? yes but were too lame to do anything (like unplug it). If their hot water heater at home did that I'm betting it would get some attention. Ignorance in numbers seems to be very lady-like. Self-preserving blindness or ignorance can kill people (ask Hillary).
