This topic applies to semi's, pumps and levers in all calibres.

I have three:

Savage 64 TR-SR 22lr - semi
Light and reasonably accurate. Take down is simple. It has some feeding issues that are associated with the magazine lip and the 10 shot magazine is a pain to fill and load. I bought it as a plinker and sometimes wander the woods with it when grouse are plentiful.

Savage 99F 308 - Lever
Smooth action and a fast woods gun. Take down is simple. I had some initial problems with extraction. This appears is common for this rifle in this calibre. I had the reamer marks lapped out of the chamber and the extractor adjusted. I am carefull in sizing cases and OAL and haven't had additional issues. This is an accurate hunter but by no means a target rifle.

Remington 760 Game Master 35 Rem - Pump
The lightest and fastest woods rifle I have ever used and that includes a 94 carbine that I parted with and have regretted ever since. Accurate enough for hunting within its brush gun range of 150 yards. Action is fast but noisy. Take down is easy but reassembly almost requires a third hand. I had some issues with case splitting but neck sizing to give a snug fit eliminated them. I use 205 grain hard cast and they hit pretty heavy. This gun was made in 1953 and was not drilled for a scope. After much reflection I decided to get it scoped. My eyes are just not good enough for iron anymore and this is a hunter's rifle, not a wall decoration.

My next purchase probably will be a BAR in 30-06. If you have experience with one I would appreciate your comments.

Can someone please move this to the Guns category. I thought I was there when I started the thread.

Mac, any idea of what you ask? Smile

And here most BAR's are in .300 WM. I started my career with a BAR in 7mm RM and my hunting(girl-)friend has one in .270 Win that shoots as accurate as a boltaction rifle.

My advice: don't chose a BAR-light and when you can, take one with the inscription "Made in Belgium" and you won't regret it.

I've had a couple of BARs, very good, reliable accurate rifles.

Out here in the land if Oz, a repeater also refers to a bolt action that is magazine fed. Anyway, back to the subject...I only have a single lever gun, the venerable Winchester Model 94 in 30.30 Win.

MacD, are you spying on your Southern Neighbors for the Obama Administration so they would know what firearms we have?

Slim I presume they already know. They say they destroyed all the registery information here when they removed long guns from having to be registered. I don't doubt for one minute that some behind the scenes goverment agency has a copy.

No my object was to start a conversation just like we would have over a beer in a hunting camp..

Vince, some call bolts with magazines repeaters here also. That is why I clarified.

Seems most have or have had a model 94.

Aloy, I lean toward the 30-06 as it has such a wide range of loadings. It is probably the most versatile calibre.

I have an SKS - that I haven't fired in over ten years, A Ruger Mark 1, High Standard M101, Mosberg 500 ATP-8, and a Rossi 22 LR pump (copy of the Winchester 62A).

My other guns are either revolvers or bolt rifles.

Only rifles I have that fit your group are a customized Ruger 10/22 and a Savage 87D .22lr. Everything else is right bolt or single shot.

MacD...What would be the difference between a lever and a bolt action if they both are not repeaters. The Marlin M81 is a tube fed bolt action. The mod 94 is a tube fed lever (bolt) action. The Browning is a box magizine fed bolt action. All are repeaters.

Semi-autos come under a different heading.

and the Browning lever action is also magazine fed...

and is there no lever on a single shot Ruger #1 or a BSA-Martini?

What about my O/U in cal 36 with a lever action to open it?

And what do you mean with semi-auto's? Things to hunt as the BAR, the Remington Woodmaster and the Browning Auto-5, or things like the FAL, SA-FN, .30 M1...

Okay I surrender. I know bolt actions that reload from some form of magazine are repeaters but I was thinking only of those that fit into the three actions I mentioned. O/U, drillings, SxS and any rifle that can fire more than one round without reloading I presume could be called a repeater. Geez-Louise as Radar would say.
