To scope a 3040 Krag do you have to bend the bolt?

Thanks for all the help, I'll see if I can find a gunsmith to bend the bolt.

Vince: My eyes are 13 years older than yours, think I will go with scope

Thanks again to all............Jim

Are you talking about the Springfield Armory model 1898 the answer is yes. It has a bolt that would hit a scope unless the scope was mounted very high.

I found side mounting a scope reduces the amount of adjustment and if you zero at 100 yards, as the range gets beyond that your zero is going to alter the further out you go.

A scout, or long eye relief, scope is a good option, but also a ghost ring setup also works well.

Yodledog...how old are your eyes mate? The older the looking gear gets, the more a scope is needed, but even with my 63 yr old eyes, a ghost ring works pretty good.

yodledog,
Welcome to the Forum. Glad to see you here.

Most of the Krag rifles I have seen with scopes had them mounted on the left side of the receiver. I have never liked that arrangement and have found it to be awkward. It depends what you prefer. All the best...
Gil
