Well guys, SWMBO said we needed some venni sausages(oh alright I thought we needed some) good excuse for a hunt Very Happy Very Happy
gave my good mate a ring as he is going home to the states very soon and that will pretty much be the end of our neat private land hunting...working on plan B...
Zoomed up to his place after wolfing down tea, arrived just after 18;00 and piled into ute and off up farm
didnt get far as less than 2kms from house there was this dopey 3yr old stag with short scrubby velvet antlers standing in middle of road Shocked Shocked Shocked
Mate had rifle on dashboard so out he piles and boompha down goes stag, I grabbed Nathans new/old rifle(Miroku BLR) and got him to finish it off with headshot..took two but got it done (125grn ballistic tip makes a heck of a mess at .308 speed)
DROVE UTE THE 75YARDS TO STAG Very Happy Very Happy then managed to heave it onto tray and carried on...couldnt really do the poohs n wees bit beside road now could we???
found nice spot and I whipped out knife and did that job quick az.
oh well may as well drive around track a bit as it may be our last chance we think....
dont get far again before I look past mate out drivers window and "stop theres a deer"
a lovely big fat hind stood looking at us from about 250yards away
"nah we will leave her alone, already got a deer and she may have a fawn"
back into ute and continue...not very far Scratch Scratch Scratch bit of a pattern forming here Scratch
Nathan spotts 2 more deer ahead of us,
we drive through gate and get a tad closer to where they popped over hill, pile out I grab .223 this time and get Nathan sorted with his BLR Mate heads up fenceline and Nathan n I cross over and go about 50 yards when Nathan spots the 2 deer about 75 yards ahead looking our way
" get forward and lay down to shoot" I tell him
the deer move about 20 yards further on and bottom one turns side on
" take bottom one in the shoulder" I instruct
BOOOM goes .308 and down like sack of poohs goes wee deer right onto track
the 2nd (or should that be 4th??) deer heads toward Mate who calls out "do we want this one too?"
"may as well" I reply sitting down...deer moves down and stops above track and lifts head...silly move when Ive got my zastava in my mitts Very Happy
phiitt goes .223 and back of skull spreads over hillside Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
man that felt good, deer slumps down onto track
Nathan and I start knife work while Mate gets ute and drives right to animals
that was enough time to go home keeping eye out for a pig of course.

home by 21;00 with 3 lovely vennis all stags one 3yr old and 2 yearlings.
got them into garage last night and when I got home from work Nathan had then skinned Very Happy made me very proud.
we have hind legs still hanging and back steaks and mince/sausage cuts in bin waiting processing
an awesome easy hunt with a very very good mate who we will miss like mad when he goes.
Nathan has come along way from our first hunt up there...missed hind at 10 yards with .410
he really is shaping up to be a great hunter.

will add photo later when get it off my phone

Do you need an extra freezer of extra eaters?

And what they learn young, they'll never forget and will repete when they're older...

it even counts for what they learn to eat...

so: good job!
I wish my grandson could already be older (with me staying the same age or getting younger Smile )

Sounded like a great hunt.

Elvis, you didn't even let 2 of them enjoy sex before you sent them to their end. Congrats!

Well done guys...sounds like a pleasant evening was had by all...except for a three year old stag and a couple of yearlings. Laughing

Young Nathan is turning into quite the little hunter mate...won't be long and he'll be taking you instead of the other way 'round.

Nugget fell off rock face after scragging a opossum, I stood on it and told him to leave it, he took three steps back...two of which were into thin air
fell about 4 mtrs before hitting head on jutting out rock
fell another 4 mtrs then hit smack on his back
then fell another 4 mtrs landing in shingle/loose small rocks
got up coughed out possum fur, shook himself off took 3 steps and spooked above wallaby and gave chase......
I was able to do nothing once he stepped back and watched in horror each thud had me picturing smashed and broken dog.
he came home fine and got to sleep inside (alright..he slept on my bed)
and was fine in morning
I reckon it was his big floppy ears that saved him,if he learnt how to flap them properly I wouldnt even need to shoot the ducks....
