I have acquired several Adams & Bennett barrels in various calibers from Midway and have been very pleased with their performance. To date, I have rebarreled a Kar98k sporter with a bad bore into a 7x57mm Mauser, a 1903 Springfield sporter became a .280 Remington, an FN Mauser is now also a .280, a Krag is getting a .30-06 barrel rethreaded and rechambered into .30/40 and a Springfield 1903-A3 sporter will become a .338-06.

These are budget-priced barrels that are medium contour and threaded for a'98 Mauser. The local gunsmith really likes the barrels and they shoot as good as I can hold. I was shooting the .280 Springfield yesterday with reloads of 139 grain Hornady bullets and IMR4350 powder and shot honest MOA groups. When these barrels go on sale again I plan to get a few more. All the best...
Gil

Cool I have also used barrels from Midway, 1 Mauser and 2 Savage, they are all Adams & Bennet. It was my understanding that the barrels under the A&B namebrand are manufactured by ER Shaw. After quite a few calls and some e-mail requests I am 90%+ positive that the barrels were in fact made by ER Shaw. The Mauser I had to finish chamber, it is shooting MOA with my handloads in 7x 57. The 2 Savage barrels are fantastic shooters, a .308 does .75 MOA all day and a .358 Winchester is starting tto come around but even now is an MOA barrel, I expect this one to also be a .75 MOA or possibly a tad better. I'll keep you posted. All therr barrels wer obtained on sale so they were each under 100. They are a good buy for most unless you are really looking for a BR Quality barrel, if so then you won't even be looking at these anyway. Cool

Just started working with my first AB barrel. Savage 22-250 AI varmint contour that cost me the grand total of $82 less shipping. I put the rifle together and loaded up fireform rounds first. These proved very accurate and gave me a couple hundred cases to develop loading data for. Right now I have a load that uses 52 gr. Amaxs and H-380 that clocks along at 4000 fps and is like a bolt of lightning on prairie dogs. I should have bought a couple of the same barrel..................

It is my understanding that ER Shaw makes the barrels for A&B, they are fine barrels, I also have a 03 Springfeild I rebarreled with an A&B barrel in 243 winchester and it shoots fine. I got an unturned barrel blank and made an egg rifle.

Oop's! Sorry Vince, at our local club we have a competition called "Egg shoot", centerfire shoots 200yds, rimfire shoots 100yds, several of us have rifles we have built or had built for this competition. Shocked
Its actually hard to hit them darn things Mad Its amazing what affect the wind and your own stupid mistakes can affect bullet flight.

Wow mate, that sounds like a real fun shoot. No arguments about hitting the egg either. It would be a bit like hitting the "shoot off" targets we used in pistol sillouette......half size feeding chickens at 200m.

Another fun shoot we had was a fly shoot at 50m, pictures of blowflies on an A4 sheet of paper. .22 rimfires either sitting or standing. Very frustrating but fun. Very Happy

Cheers, Vince

The egg shoot is fun as well, some of the newer fellows take it alittle to serieus though, that gets frustrating.

How could you take a fun shoot like that seriously???? Confused

I'm looking forward to blowing up some eggs. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Sorry, I'll get back on topic. Had a friend who worked for Midway before she passed away a couple of years back. She had nothing but praise for the owners and their products.

Cheers, Vince

Never did an organized egg shoot.........but we take short pieces of string and super glue them to the end of eggs. Then suspend the eggs from a fence wire using the string...........extremely difficult target as there are no references for missed shots.

We use 2 screws and rubber bands, the eggs are against a black back ground so no reference for missed shots.
