Sorry I messed up the last post. I tried to quote 1895ss on EEZOX. The stuff is great, everything 1895ss said, but it costs $20 for an 18 ounce can. Don't be shocked when you see the price, it is incredible stuff and well worth the price.

Guys.......

Re: the hoppe's elite.....I've got zero invested in the situation other than I stumbled on a really good cleaner......

I've used good ol' #9 but got tired a long time ago of all the brushing and scrubbing to get the copper out...unless you're using benchrest #9, regular #9 is not a copper solvent. it's designed for powder and plastic residue/fouling.......

Elite does what Sweets does without the smell and in a third of the time....maybe faster. When I say without the smell....I mean ZERO smell of ammonia......

Now the true test of this stuff will be when I switch and start load testing TSX bullets in my 300 RUM...............

I pay $12.50 for a 7 ounce can but you're right, it is well worth. Smile

No problemo dude...........<grin>

Elite has the consistancy of water to the look and a slight soapy feel to the touch. Obviously it does something "chemical" to remove the copper as it turns the copper fouling blue initially on the mop or patch.............

I can honestly say that it is my judgement the stuff does zero damage to the gun metal. I kinda forgot to lube a bore one time after cleaning it and remembered a few days later.........crap.........

I was expecting rust or other residual chemical effects from staying un oiled for a few days.........nothing on the dry patch I ran down the bore.........

Like I said.........I don't impress easily, but this stuff is pretty awsome. Am wonderin' why those in it for the big time ain't toutin' it heavily...............

I chucked the action part of my guns minus the stocks into an Ultrasonic bath filled with 5% bicarbonate soda plus water for 30 minutes, then I replace the liquid with kerosene for 10 minutes then I spray them parts with WD40.

Works quite well all these years..

Ya may as well just throw them guns in the lake to store 'em......

And save the money spent on WD-40....

No flamin' intended, since I'm a new guy here, but....If drawing as much moisture as possible is the goal...use WD.........

WD 40 also tends to degrade with time into a cruddy film.

Three uses I have for WD.....

1. starting a stubborn campfire.....

2. drying out the wet plug wires and dist. cap on my hunting rig.......

3. pain reliever...re: smashed digits via misplaced hammers, car doors ect.

Notice I didn't mention lubrication or rusty bolts.......<grin>

Hey gelandangan old mate, you better jump in here with me Hiding ....it might keep you safe for a little while, or at least until this blows over. Laughing

Uh Oh, someone mentioned the "W" term Rolling Eyes .....10Ring, Dimitri, 1895ss, everybody.........we better grab Bushy in case he goes berserk. We know how he feels about abusing firearms by using "that stuff". Mad Mad

Seriously though. When I first joined the Army a lifetime ago, they had a method of cleaning that we now know to be very very questionable. After a cursory clean of your firearm the metal bits and pieces were given a bath in a liquid called "range fuel".

Now I believe this stuff was something like a mixture of kerosene and something like Shellite. Would strip everything off the metal bits, and I mean everything, even the natural waxes etc from the metal. After that we would liberally drench them in oil. They decided about 15 years ago that this wasn't a good thing...and that the liquid was carcenogenic. wtf

Can't do that these days, the aussie military firearm is mainly plastic, "range fuel" would melt them Laughing Laughing . Some guys take their rifle into the shower with them. Shocked

Cheers, Vince
