I wanted to add a note that I saw that Starline will soon have several new products based on the .308 Winchester case: .243, .260. 7mm-08, .338. .358.

I've never attempted to sort cases by volume of water and after reading about it don't plan to.

I'll just tell him they are not usable (he only has 20 marked with the "13") and send him to the store to buy some new brass. It's still gonna be cheaper in the long run than buying factory ammo, especially since he won't have investment in tools...

hunterjoe21 - The brass with: "FC 13 300 Win Mag", is 300 Win Mag brass produced at the LC military plant. IIRC, ATK the parent company of Federal is currently running the LC plant for the US Army. If anything the "FC 13 300 Win Mag" brass is better than the regular FC 300 Win Mag brass, because it's made to military specs, so that brass would probably be thicker.

I noticed the same markings on some of my Federal 223 Rem brass. The Federal brass with FC and 223 Rem (which is produced at another plant), didn't have a crimp, but the FC 223 Rem brass with year code (produced at the LC plant), had a crimp, and the brass was thicker.
