|
Early this year my wife was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer. Tests showed her Cancer Antigen level as 1,855 (normal is 0-35). We were immediately referred to the Oncology Unit of the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After multiple chemotherapy treatments and extensive surgery, we got the news this week that she is in full remission and her antigen number is 16.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the wonderful oncology staff headed by Dr. Kushner at the University of Wisconsin hospital for their kindness, caring and professionalism. Their attitude and expertise is incredible. When I asked during our initial consultation about the Stage 4 diagnosis, Dr. Kushner was quick to say "We don't deal in stages...our goal is cures." We still have several quarterly check-ups ahead, but we can look forward to a brighter future. The only thing I wanted for Christmas I got.
May the peace and joy of the season be with all of you. I hope all will take the time to think of their blessings and family. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

Your last paragraph is what Christmas is all about.
My prayers for a long and happy life for you and your wife.

We thank you all for your wishes. She was quite touched be the wishes from (to her) total strangers. I reminded her that most people are good, but those on this forum are the best!
Please encourage your wives and daughters to open a sincere conversation with their doctors about any concerns. My wife's cancer was found as a result of a totally unrelated problem, but she had voiced her concern to her doctor since she had lost her mother to ovarian cancer 18 years ago. Thankfully her doctor listened and ordered testing and imaging. This type of cancer is seldom found by normal examinations, and specific testing can be inconclusive.
Interestingly, genetic testing showed that this was not passed to her by genetics...a point of great concern since we have two daughters and five granddaughters. It was just a bad roll of the dice.
Of course there is no guarantee that it won't return at a later date, but that is in God's hands.
Again, thanks to all and may God bless you.

SSL, it seems you found the docters that suit you best: no B.S., 1 shot = 1 kill and cancer is gone...
Good luck for both of you!
When you're getting older and be married for long times, you know who to ask when you cannot find your socks or shirt... it's hard to imaging that you might be forced to reorganise.
And on the other side: once a wife learns to live with her fool, it's for her a step in the darkness too when she has to train another...
Bushy is right (as always): this time of the year it's good to look back, think and thank because somehow everything could have a reason but not always a good explanation.

Good news indeed.
May her recovery continue without relapse.
Enjoy your family and the holidays.
Merry Christmas.
